Anno Domini: Rise of Cities edition (latest version dated November 9th 2016)

One thing I've noticed is that early in the game, when barbarian camps spawn slingers, you can stand a unit a stone's throw away, and the slingers seem to pretty reliably hit you and retreat after battle, leaving the camp undefended and easily taken by your unit. Certainly doesn't ruin the game...

Anno Domini: Rise of Cities edition (latest version dated November 9th 2016)

Hey I really like this mod a lot. Keep up the good work!

    (BNW) Easy Deity Diplomatic Victory

Uh... I mean, if you're mainly in it for the immersive simulation experience, sure. And there's nothing wrong with playing that way. But when it comes to people who play it more like a strategy game and are trying to win, it's not particularly hard to resist the temptation of doing things other...

How do you deal with low production starts?

Sometimes playing with a disadvantage due to bad start can be fun. Just remember that you had a bad start and don't feel bad if you lose. I also advocate liberty and expand fast, but not fast enough that you become everyone's worst enemy early on. You really don't know how a game of civ will...

    (BNW) Easy Deity Diplomatic Victory

Diplomatic victory always feels a little cheesy/unsatisfying to me, if only because it takes place in an abstract little menu that's sort of separate from the actual game. It's also disproportionately easy compared to the others, and ought to be a little bit more difficult. Personally, I...

Metal Casting before Education, Internal trade routes changing the game?

I'm an Emperor level player, so I can't speak for higher difficulties, but there are some situations where I would do (and have done) this. Usually several things have to be true, like I went liberty + I'm nearing my happiness cap + I intend to use the increased production for some high-value...

    How to win with Portugal

If you're determined to ignore city states with portugal, you can, but it's not necessarily a good idea. Portugal ends up making a lot of money, and when you're sitting on 1100 bucks and a CS comes up with a public works quest, sometimes you might as well grab it.

    Planting Great People

After being generated, a great person's city of origin does not matter at all.

Best alternative to Civ: Fallen Enchantress or Endless Space?

I picked up Endless Space for $15 and I'm very happy with it. The battle-cards system felt awkward at first, but once I figured out how combat worked, it made more sense and, contrary to many complaints I hear, it's actually quite strategic. The only annoying thing is not being able to...

    Do you always denounce back?

Denouncing is a good way to choose sides. Example: Babylon is directly to my west, and Persia is just beyond him. Persia and Babylon have already gone to war in the past and now hate each other. If I don't want to fight Babylon any time soon, I'll denounce Persia, causing Babylon to like me...

Diplomacy is back to vanilla again broken?

I'm not sure why that would irk you. Don't you want your opponents to present a challenge? The more wonders you build, the more attractive your lands look to the AI. The fewer defenses you have, the less risk on the AI's part appears to be involved. If your cities are teeming with wonders and...

News *might be* on the way - Follow-up Fall Patch coming soon (definitely)

I feel like people who think the AIs are all murderous and bloodthirsty simply aren't building enough units, or are building too wide too early. In my experience, those are the very best ways to guarantee war. If one doesn't do either of those things, war remains a real possibility, but it's far...

Diplomacy is back to vanilla again broken?

I don't really have a lot of trouble keeping peaceful relations with other civs, even since the patch. Sometimes there's nothing I can do about DoWs, like when I'm trapped on a small island with attila, but in general, having a decent standing army, not expanding too near anyone else, and...

    River capital or Coast capital?

Yeah, I guess the river would have been better. I did get the SOH, but that's because I made poor tech choices and missed out on a bunch of good wonders, so the game lasted like 400 turns. I still won, but it was only Emperor.

fountain of youth - SUPER IMBALANCED!

To be fair, the chance of those things appearing early and being useful to you in a game is probably similar to the chance of other circumstances beyond your control making your game really easy, especially if you count AI-related ones.
