    Are you by any chance playing with the YnaMP mod enabled? This mod breaks Barb camps converting into CS's, a real pity as I love how you can guarantee your favourite CS's showing up with it, but at least with conversion enabled they have a chance of showing up later.

    You must also check which other civs might have lucked into relics through a goodie hut. Most civs charge a kings ransom for them but I've had some domination oriented civs offer them for a lux.

    Also remember that when the prophet race is getting close you can recruit one with gold or faith In the great people tab. The cost will go down depending on how close you are so this may make all the difference if it's a matter of just a few turns.

    Influence level also affects resistance time and population loss when capturing a city - if you take a city from a civ whom you are dominant over in tourism there will be NO turns of resistance and no population loss.

    In my experience it costs 200 in Ancient, classical and medieval eras, then it goes up in Rennaissance to 300, 400 in Industrial, 600 in Modern, 800 in Atomic and 1000 in Info. So no, it's not cheaper in ancient Era, and the increase isn't a fixed percentage.
