I read this guide before i took a stab at the Zulu #1 . I did well, as well as Glory 7 because i'm a very good builder but i suffered multiple dows after taking out the first civ. Sure i could have bribed them away but that would have been costly. Probably i should have done that anyway or do...
Agree. In the Iroquois game i had all CS allied at some point, missed only 2 at the end of that game. Had also patronage finished, it's a powerful combo. Not that you would do this every game but CS shouldn't be neglected. Even in a domination game you'll probably need them for happiness.
Compared to civ4 chops seem to be less powerful in this game as base production is generally higher and getting up improvements costs a lot of time with tradition in this game. For that reason i don't find myself chopping that much very early. Maybe i should chop a bit more but there always...
If you like Civ5 to resemble reality you are certainly right, can't live in the forests forever and prosper. Cheaper or more base hammers would be ok indeed.
