Why am I starving when producing a settler?

In that case, shouldn't you lose a pop every time you build a military unit?

    feedback on AI combat behavior

It looks to me that that cs is owned by Mongolia. Edit: If that's the case, the color looks different, though. Maybe he's using a mod to change it.

    "territorial disputes strain your relationship"

Maybe they settled towards you, because it is your territory that they want to take. It's a civ-eat-civ world out there, and you can't expect everyone to act nice.

    Quick Questions / Quick Answers

My Authority neighbor was Persia, and I played pretty passively, so maybe they felt they didn't need to go to war. I was playing The Netherlands, so it's not like I was against having friendly neighbors, but it was a little strange how easily everyone wanted to be friends.

    Quick Questions / Quick Answers

Is it just my imagination, or is the AI a lot friendlier than in past patches? Even my Authority neighbor wanted to DoF me, despite my lack of troops.

    Without A River (City Yields)

Moving tradition's culture bonus from baths to amphitheaters is a slight buff, because any city can build an amphitheater. But, in the end, this change seems very minor, and you probably would hardly even notice the difference while playing. Contrary to this thread, I'd actually be in favor of...

    Without A River (City Yields)

Settling outside of a river does have its advantages, mostly due to the early production-boosting well. River-cities have to wait until you unlock water-mills.

Ideological Pressure and Influence Balance Discussion

I don't think anyone is going to change their nation into an autocracy just because their neighbor has a lot of guns. And a large population isn't going to turn nations 'orderly' when they look at China. The hammer/science thing makes some sense, though that might work for any ideology (you see...

    Quick Questions / Quick Answers

I've been having a hard time understanding how to play aggressively in the early game. I pick authority, build some units, and then go bankrupt when I don't have enough gold to keep a decent army. Do I have to research trade very early and build markets to avoid that?

    Ranged vs Melee

Ranged units are good, but they are vulnerable to mounted units. Melee units protect them against those, and can also capture cities unlike ranged units.

Why didn't I get the Domination Victory message?

Does it? I was sure it said you needed to control every player's original capital.
