[help] Is it possible to make a policy effect depend on specific tech?

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your meaning, but from what I can see the Policies were adapted directly from Civics, and there are plenty of (mostly nonfunctional) leftovers to show it.

Which Tree should I replace with a new Culture Tree?

You've never had the displeasure of trying to mod the policies, have you? :) If it has to be one of those, I guess Patronage if only for flavour similarities.

Has it always been possible to pillage citadels?

That's odd, I managed to repair one with a worker.

    Civ 5...still a bit silly?

The problem is the time frame. In the early game a turn can be 20 or 40 years, so winter doesn't make any sense. If Civ VI has a different time frame it could possibly incorporate seasons, but the time frame's been pretty much the same since the beginning as far as I'm aware, so it might be...

Technologies that aren't... am I the only one bothered?

I think they kind of missed an opportunity with Social Policies by casting them as a replacement for Civics/Governments. Structurally what they are is just this, cultural and sociological advances. I'd actually like to see Social Policies along side Civics or Governments, with the former...

    Civ 5...still a bit silly?

I think you missed the point, actually. It's not a false equivalency, it's a legitimate question of why pop culture references qualify as silly but historic inaccuracies don't. Sure, the OP has made it perfectly clear that he doesn't consider the latter silly, but he doesn't seem to have...

    Farms/Freedom vs Outposts/Rationalism

But communist nations historically did not use the church as a figurehead. They rather vocally opposed religious institutions. England had its civil war, but the system as it is today came about by a much more peaceful and gradual transition. Not that I think Order should not be compatible with...

Great Britain, and many similar nations?

    Governments

I think it would be great to see social policies along side governments (or civics). Social policies to me feel more like technologies; they open up the possibility of having two parallel tech trees, one for scientific advances fueled by research points and one for social advances fueled by...

    getting my versions confused

Just an achievement, and I think there's a message. No in game benefit, though.

    Draft and Whipping?

So I noticed that in CIV5HurryInfos.xml is HURRY_POPULATION and there's a <MaxConscript> variable in CIV5Policies.xml. But these don't actually do anything, do they? Does anyone know if there is some way to include Drafting and/or Whipping in Civ5?

Modding Social Policies (from the ground up)

For the moment it sounds like I'll need to mod the UI just to include the ten I want. I'm having trouble determining the function of every part of the UI files, but even so I still can't see where the ID numbers are hardcoded, nor why anyone would think it was a good idea to hardcode them. All...

Modding Social Policies (from the ground up)

I didn't alter the Branch at all, and the Prereq changes were exactly the same as those in the test mod I posted. While my track record would suggest some kind of silly mistake of this order, none of those possibilities fit. Yes, exactly, that's just text! I have never deleted any text tags...

Modding Social Policies (from the ground up)

Are you sure about that? I tried making the same changes as the test mod I posted but by deleting the Tradition tree and then remaking it. If what you're saying is true, that should have worked perfectly fine, but it didn't. Also, from what I can see from the UI files the "Tradition" and...

Modding Social Policies (from the ground up)

I'm aware of that, I already did the Hello World test, and it worked, so I took out the UpdateDatabase command for that one. That actually worked, hooray! It still sits uneasily with me, though. That's fine for the changes I want to make to Tradition, I guess, but for some of the other...
