The most hatred-filled review you'll come across

You're exactly right. So here I am - the target audience who was disappointed by Civ V a year and half ago for almost identical reasons. So disappointed, I haven't even THOUGHT about it in a year, let alone bothered playing it. How is this review a disservice to me? I know Tom is a prick, I'm...

The most hatred-filled review you'll come across

This is everything wrong with modern game reviews in one sentence. Games are more than a collection of features. Movies aren't reviewed on how well the color correction process was executed. Or the crispness of the editing. Or the quality of the foley artist. Why are games reviewed this way...

The most hatred-filled review you'll come across

Not a good analogy here though. Tom doesn't say he hates Strategy. Or even Turn Based Strategy. Or Civilization. He dislikes Civ V. He dislikes Civ V in a way, and for reasons, that resonates with a lot of people. And he states it upfront so Civ V fans know this reviews not for them - but for...

The most hatred-filled review you'll come across

He seems to have a good grasp of it. A review, by its very nature, is subjective when it comes down to the most important question - is it enjoyable? If a reviewer does not enjoy a game, how is he doing the reader a service by ignoring that? An "objective" review would be a listing of...

The most hatred-filled review you'll come across

Just wanted to chime in and say Thank God for this review. Most Civ fans don't even bother to play Civ V, and I have personally been waiting for an expansion to fix its inherent problems. Now thanks to this review I know its more of the same. I'll keep my wallet in my pocket, and fire up a game...

Wow! Even better! I hope 2KGames takes this feature and credits you in a future update.

Reading Civ5Replay files (update: HTML export!)

With this in, I now believe I am playing Civ, and not some generic strategy game! Thank you! 2KGames should be ashamed that this simple but important features was not in the game to begin with!

    1000 reasons why you're disappointed

No resignation but who cares, since the end game graph/replay is gone?!?! Why bother playing if you can't relive your triumphs? I mean c'mon - its been 20 years. At least match civ 1 in feature set.

What happened to the F1/Domestic Advisor??

It seems there are a LOT of undocumented advisor changes - particularly the domestic and foreign advisors (eternal gratitude to whoever can point me to a summary of UI and advisor changes - if such a thing exists). But I have to say, it seems they killed the f1 screen: Where is the summary...

    Live vicariously

Is your machine actually blue screening or crashing? If so it should be producing a dump file which can shed light on whats happening. Also - the event viewer (application or system) might have more info on whats locking the machine - a locked machine on XP or 2003 usually means that a...

Loading IE may help with movie problems

I've been having severe movie problems on my machine since the beginning (even with v1.09) - stuttering and even crashes. But it was not consistent, every once in a while the movies would play smoothly...Recently I noticed that if I loaded Internet Explorer prior to playing, then my movie...

    Are huge maps too huge?

But if the map was that size, you would end up with the entire US covered with a city every 4-5 squares. If they have maps that big, they'll need to scale up the city control radius's to match... And put limits on the number of units you can have on a square. I don't think it would be realistic...
