I agree with the OP. Does anyone here ever do a private RPC for fun? I was thinking of trying to play a game where I only do "moral" things -- no slavery, go for emancipation/freedom civics ASAP, no aggressive war, no razing, etc. Or a game where I explicitly try to be evil, or whatever.
When playing peaceful, I'm always worrying about the big SoD coming in to wreck my carefully planned society. When warmongering, I obviously never have to worry about this. So to me a warmonger game is much less stressful. It's not that it's easier to destroy than create -- it's easier to be...
It seems like one of the AI's biggest blind spots is in understanding how to use siege to weaken stacks. If I'm outside an AI city and he's got a stack in there, he never has siege units, and if he does, he doesn't ever seem to attack my attacking stack with his defending siege and try to wipe...
