You have a chance, just make sure you don't take no for an answer. Point out that it was their fault, yadda yadda yadda.... They'll likely relent and let you get away without paying it, but if not, oh well it's a lesson learned.

You could always buy 2x512 now, and an additional 2x512 later. If it means being able to afford an upgrade of other components now that are more expensive to replace later on I would definately recommend it.

Odd, I run a wireless linksys through cox and it retains its settings. The only thing it does is force us to re-enter our WEP key into our wireless laptops occasionaly, but it hasn't dumped settings, even after being unplugged and replugged.

Because i was able to prove the damage was in shipping they covered that too, I didn't even have to complain much. My sister had to get an RMA a little while ago but couldn't prove fault so she had to cover the shipping out, they covered the shipping back.

@lonkut: You might want to open up your case and find out where the majority of the noise is coming from. If you are feeling up to it you can unplug your cpu fan(TEMPORARILY!!) to see how much that reduces the noise. If the noise is still unbearable then plug that back in, and start unplugging...

It should smoke civ4, but i'll concur with the others that the video card is weak. You would start to choke playing doom at any of the higher settings.
