Trying hard to NOT get currency free!

Kinda o/t but recently I discovered currency (1st civ to do so) on the same turn that I got 250 gold. My 250 gold gave me currency for "free," even though I just finished researching it, and I didn't get my free market/caravan.

I think it's most likely something that has meaning but is broken and never got fixed before release. For example, every sword is a battle, except that the game sucks at keeping track of them so it only displays like 5 out of the 200 battles you fight every game.

Early preferences: Few huge cities or many "villages"?

I try to do as much exploration as possible with my early warriors while rushing Code of Laws, so that when I locate my enemies I can pump out a quick couple settlers along with the 100g settlers and found cities in locations that "box in" my opponents and prevent their early expansion - it...

So... how does the computer pump out so many armies?

Yeah, this helps a lot when dealing with attackers.

The first thing you mentioned (skipping prereqs of prereqs) is a good point, but the three above can all be responded to with "...but getting the earlier tech + future tech in succession will often take the exact same amount of turns as getting the future tech by itself." i.e., you gain...

All Games Seems To Be The Same

Religion wasn't in Civ II though, nor was diplomacy to the extent that you see it in Civ IV. Rev basically feels, to me, like Civ II without upkeep/corruption/pollution/starvation.

In my experience researching a tech you don't already have the pre-reqs for is a bad decision, because it costs more beakers to research than it otherwise would - and I think the extra "tax" is the same as the number of beakers of the pre-req. So if you can do, like, Masonry in 2 turns and...

    Wow.. the odds..

Perhaps I should have clarified this, but from what I've noticed there are a lot more "upset" victories, especially when one unit has a massive advantage/disadvantage over the other, in naval combat than in land combat. Also, there's no way the game combat is as simple as "chances of winning...

You can set rally points with the right thumbstick. Click it once on a square to set that location. Then, the next time you're centered on a unit, click the thumbstick again and it automatically maps out a path to that square. I agree with the OP - the endgame is really kinda bad when you have...

    Wow.. the odds..

I don't think it's quite this simple - I pretty much never lose when I have, say, a 4:1 advantage in combat even though I should be losing those 20% of the time. I think naval combat works differently somehow too. I had a German galley parked outside one of my cities, so I built three separate...

    The Ark of Covenant

Yeah, the 1 unit is never strong enough to take a city or anything and you have no other units to make an army with so it's kinda pointless.

    Building cities on resources?

This is kinda why I hate the Mongols, when you capture a Barbarian camp then instead of getting a resource for later use you just get a city in a generally terrible location.

^ to expand on this, every unit takes on the characteristics of every other unit - so if you have a ninja unit and a lightning unit and combine them with a regular unit, you'll get a ninja + lightning army.

    Wow.. the odds..

Why? I presume that for an archer army to be 37.5 they must have had a lot of upgrades. Base defense is 6, veteran makes 9, engineer makes 15, leadership 21, city walls 27, fortifications 33, great general 36...getting close, I guess. So what you're saying is that this noobtastic tank army...
