To Those Wishing For The Demise Of Civ 5

Considering how CiV is nothing more than a wargame with historical fluff I suggest they drop the brand name and call their game something else since clearly there's no historical development going on anymore. G.

    Techs and Policies

Is it possible to tie technologies and social policies? I mean having policies as prereqs to techs and vice-versa? G.

    Trade bug

Possibly this has been discussed. I signed a treaty with an AI where I exchanged 1 luxury resource for one of my strategic ones. When it ended - or perhaps the AI canceled it - every turn after after that I kept getting a pop-up that the treaty had been canceled - and the horse I was trading...

    Movig over Terrain

I verified the terrain files trying to find a value governing the movement cost - to make it more expensive to cross desert or jungle or tundra but unless I missed it I didn't see anything looking like it. Anyone has any clues? G.

    Agriculture

What about the city names which no longer display properly? I merely changed Rome to Roma... Oh and I added Alba as 2nd city instead of Antium... Is there another file where these names are reported - other than Civilizations.xml? G.

    Agriculture

It's working - just need to remember to reposition the X/Y xis display. Btw anyone know what the full graph is? How many rows and columns? I changed the name of Rome to Roma and now all cities show Text_key_ something or other... G.

    Agriculture

LUA heh? Most moddable Civ game ever indeed... G.

    Agriculture

I'm trying to rewrite the very poor tech tree so I swapped Trapping with Agriculture as 1st free tech - on the reasoning that hunter gatherers settle down to begin agriculture - not the other way around (although some hippie new age cult would have us think otherwise). After loading I still...

    Realism

As you saw, you've already been laughed at for your suggestions. As I have been for mine elsewhere. The game is first and foremost a product to be sold - hence they've designed it with their target demographics in mind: one whose attention span is short... I agree with most of what you said...

I think I'm giving up the game...

Well out of frustration after these early posts today I did go 'under the hood'. Once you observe the database structure it does start to make sense. Although a master index would be *very* useful. There are entries similar in almost every aspects except one will have a value that the others...

I think I'm giving up the game...

Stirrups were invented by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia - because they had to cover huge distance on horses - not by farmers tied to their hoes in the Nile valley. That's what I want to see - an interaction between the player and the environment that produces something unique. There's...

I think I'm giving up the game...

I know the feeling... even though you seem to be looking for something different than me it's the same 'let down' feeling. The problem with this franchise is that it hasn't evolved. What was new 20 years ago is now stale. I mean the theory behind the game hasn't evolved - even if the...

    Tolkien fans: let's do this.

I think if you really wish to make something consistent in Endor you should focus on the 4th Age which marks the beginning of the Dominion of Men in Middle-Earth. All the pesky problems related to magical/supernatural creatures would be dealt with. You keep a few 'ancient' enclaves as city...

    Ancient Times

The last time I played Civ was with Civ3 - Civ4 and its new... architecture made it very complicated to mod (it hasn't changed with this new version...) so I abandoned it quickly. However this time around, and despite the complications on one hand - and the ever present limitations on the...

Why put out an unfinished game?

Hate? Not at all - I'm just bored! And disappointed that after 20 years and 5 versions we still have the same basic - and as I said - tired theory behind the game. G.
