Indeed, and how could all of those reviewers give such high scores (which actually are permanent for things like metacritic) without actually spending time to play thoroughly. Kids these days!
From what you've described, no. However, you can try if you want to. My understanding is you can request a refund for any reason, but if you play for more than 2 hours the request gets reviewed (instead of automagically approved).
Actually, those numbers probably aren't arbitrary, but wouldn't be meaningful outside of Firaxis (and maybe 2K). They are probably used for version control and tracking changes (and from the example Stilgar08 provided the part in parentheses looks very much like a p4 changelist number).
That...
I wouldn't jump to conclusions based off of early gameplay videos. AI is one of the last things to be started, let alone completed (balancing is usually one of the last things to get finished as well).
The build is probably several weeks old, if not more (its not like they were going to send...
On an islands map someone is likely to start on a coast and get the sailing eureka. If you have such a strong bias against water tiles that you move your starting settler away from the coast (or otherwise avoid it), that is your choice. Someone else can still come and meet you. You might...
I don't have much faith in the "play the map" pr, at least for initial strategies. In V it seems like more of a meta-game problem with early build order, map type determined what was optimal. I don't see this changing for VI.
Why bother exploring the map when you know you'll be gated by techs...
I wonder if I should count how many times something like "build a slinger" appears? I doubt early game cash from exploration will be as ridiculous as in V, but it seems likes buying one will be a better move.
Besides, I don't see the rush for getting that slinger. Sure, there is value in...
There seems to be some disconnect between the hexes and how much space they represent. They are simply to big for AoE to be plausible (even nukes).
It makes more sense for something like Endless Legend because the tactical battles zoom in.
For balance it seems (to me) like it only creates...
Arbitrary labels are arbitrary. As a game mechanic it makes sense (to me at least), but doesn't seem to resemble anything from the real world (like happiness or quality of life).
I could argue that it be changed to grooviness, but that wouldn't necessarily be better.
I tend to agree with the it will depend on the map camp.
In another continents thread, someone (Joketa, IIRC) brought up map size and number of opponents. Home continent bonuses would seem to be relatively more powerful with smaller maps.
It would be cool if they did something to scale these...
To be fair there are actually two arguments against continents being made in the thread. One is gameplay related, one is UI related.
The UI premise seems quite reasonable (to me anyway), which is basically that requiring another UI layer for it is lame. The solution likely isn't as simple...
Maybe decrease their defensive strength as well. My impression from the videos is ranged units are no longer able to solo same tier melee units with ease, let alone one or two higher (like in CiV).
