My game is unstable post-update. Audio hiccups at first, then the game crashed when I met a civilization. When I tried to resume game, it took down my PC. :(
Yeah, I was playing as Rome and was completely iron-less, so I wanted to make some deals. Every civ would sell me 2 iron for a flat 20 gold, but the price went dramatically up if I wanted more. 10 iron would cost me 20 gold per turn.
So I ended up just buying iron 2 units at a time from...
I'm not quite sure how they do what they do, but I sent a bunch of them into foreign lands and I suddenly had a cultural victory. The religious rock band was particularly devastating to my opponents as it successfully knocked out their holy cities. That religious band practically won the game...
I play a lot of Huge, Marathon games and I find there's lots of land right through to the Information Age. I have a detail of units whose jobs are to clear barbarian camps around the world.
I play on the Emperor level and Venice has never been a threat to me in any shape or form. If he's got money, he doesn't spend it. At most, he acquires 3 city-states. Usually some other AI kills him. In a game I'm running now - a marathon game on a huge map where I'm the Aztecs - I am allied...
In my experience, Washington is a backstabber who the rest of the world either ignores or tears to shreds. He has never been anywhere near the top of the heap and has an annoying tendency of placing cities where they don't belong. Like England, America never seems to go anywhere in Civ 5.
Elizabeth is impossible to work with. I've logged 1500 hours and I'm not sure I've ever had a declaration of friendship with her.
Caesar is a habitual backstabber. Washington's generally pretty awful as well.
Dido is schizo.
Civ II. My friend got it and I was instantly hooked. I bought my first computer just so I could play Civ II. Looking back, I now see that I buy a new computer just before the release of each new Civ so it will operate as fast as possible. So I guess I'll be due for a new machine in time for Civ VI!
Emperor. That's about as far in the hole I'm willing to start a game because I'm a big fan of the early eras and at any higher level, I don't get to participate very much in those eras. I'm just a passenger until I get revved up.
