    Bombers

Don't forget that you can stage fighters and bombers in a city of any nation you have open borders with. Particularly useful for invading another continent, and saves the expense of a carrier fleet. I can't recall ever having built a carrier in Civ IV. When did Civ 6 come out?

Which unit(s) are useful the longest?

I would have to say catapults have the longest useful life of any "active" military units in my games. "Active" does not include life-long garrison units. One thing to consider though: Your tech path heavily influences the amount of time you use a certain military unit. So if you beeline...

    Early game VS Late game

Scholastic, can you post the 4000BC start file? I'd be curious to take a look at the game and try some early warfare.

    Does First Strike counter Withdraw?

An interesting question... the answer to which will be equally interesting. Withdrawl, as I understand it, simply negates a killing blow, allowing the unit to retreat instead of die. First strike, as I understand it, is an extra combat round(s) at the beginning of combat where the unit...

    Early game VS Late game

See, the problem I see here, and I think DaveMcW was alluding to, is that you are playing on Warlord level. Practically any strategy can work on lower levels (lower defined here as below Noble). Try your strategy on Monarch and see how it works out for you. It may work; I don't know as I have...

build Ironclad units since loss of oil?

You can also build some ships (maybe destroyers and subs) with Uranium too.

    Conquest on continents maps?

On a continents map, naval power is your best friend. For conquest, and other types of victory too.

Am I the only person who doesn't chop?

For a city that is in non-hill terrain, leaving forests for production is not efficient until you get lumbermills. You could make better use of that city by chopping key buildings, and making it a research city (cottages), or a Great Person factory (farms). And later in the game, the GP...

acquiring techs from civs that you're killing.

Well, I've played dozens of games now at Noble, Prince & Monarch, and I have only ever gotten a tech for peace once or twice. Never have I gotten a town/city. I have more luck demanding a tech right before I declare war. 95% of the time I go for domination, so I am in lots of wars... I...

    Normal or Epic (or quick?)

I voted to mix it up, because that can certainly add to strategic choices in game. But I would really prefer mostly epic games. I just hate the end game unit - tech pace thing. Really annoying. Hergrom

    Help on Diplo Wins?

It seems almost impossible to get more than a civ or two to attack an opponent, so the classic civ 3 strategy usually is not an option. Also you need to be very careful because of the intertwining relations amongst all the civs in a game. Pissing off one civ can ruin relations with the rest of...

    Help on Diplo Wins?

Yep, I pretty much found the same thing. Other than religion and gifting/trading bonuses, a great way to break the +11 barrier is to change your civics to match your target civ. You can get up to +5 relations if your civics match. That's the way I won my last diplo game.

-1 You have declared war on our friends... /sigh

I agree, there should be some sort of time decay of negative modifiers. Only makes sense. But on the other hand, I think it is silly that I can attack my neighbor who has the same religion and is friendly, take all but 1 or 2 of his cities, receive a tech for peace, then have him pleased...

    No war weariness...

Here are a couple other sources of war weariness: 1. Nationality - cities with partial or all foreign citizens incur ww (I imagine it is only if they are of the same nationality as the civ you are fighting). 2. Religion - If you are fighting a civ with the same state religion as yours, you...
