RAM was tested. Cooler Master V8 after-market cooler. Cores running at 50-55 degrees under Civ V load (~40 while idle), so 45-50 from TJ Max. It isn't RAM and it sure isn't poor cooling and my case is a Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced with three 140MM fans.
Trust me, it ain't the hardware.
Yeah, credit where it's due: Since upgrading to latest graphics driver and deleting NVIDIA HD audio driver (which may have been just as crucial) I haven't had a single crash in well over 200 turns on a large map with several mods.
I'm running an i7 920 quad core overclocked to 3.2 GHz (cooled with a Cooler Master V8) with 6 GB of DDR3 RAM on a Gigabyte X58-UD3R and an NVIDIA GTS 450 (Fermi) graphics card. So, no, I don't think my specs were the problem.
That was it. Needed the latest driver, but also uninstalled the HD Audio driver, which I suspect might have been causing some trouble. I noticed the sound cut out first, right before each crash.
Thanks for the suggestions. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, verified the integrity of the game files and defragmented the game cache. I set up a game and a few seconds after the game screen loaded, crash. I'm running Windows 7, 32-bit and have tried both DX9 and DX11.
I rarely post. I'm not a complainer. I find ways to work around bugs and problems and enjoy the game, which I've been doing ever since Civ II. The number of hours of pleasure Civ has given me is incalculable. But this is ridiculous.
The new patch downloads and installs. I fire up the...
As reported above, I've had mixed results on one of my machines. On the other (E8400 Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, running Win7 Professional 64-bit), I can't even play the game. It crashes either upon launch or when trying to load a game. I'm not one to whine. I know what I'm buying with game...
Your reasoning doesn't hold water. Since they have more at stake, Bear employees should have even more incentive to work hard. Yet it's clear they're spending a lot of otherwise productive time considering things like finding another buyer, contemplating legal action, meeting with their new...
You're trying too hard to dismiss experience as "anecdotal" by citing nothing more than your own anecdotal experience. The difference is that a very good example of my experience was published today in the NY Times. 14,000 Bear Stearns employees would tell you that it's very real whether you...
