Yea, my bad BtS is patched to 3.17. When I was trying to install the games patching Civ 4 to 1.74 before installing BtS would cause BtS to not run. Patching it to 1.61 then letting BtS patch it 1.74 worked just fine (exept for the graphics glitches).

What's the InstallShield Installation Information file for Beyond the Sword? I'm having a similar problem trying to get BtS running in windows 7 beta 64. I got Civ4 working well, but no joy for BtS so far.

I think it's the Viking civ that rocks on archipelago maps not Ragnar. Having naval units that start with nav.I is very nice, add a drydock, 1st circumnavigation and refrigeration and your ships are true greyhounds of the seas! Plus with theology city raider2 berserkers are great proto-marines...
Ta know this game is just so broad I've totally spaced out canals... Guess I'll just have to fire up the 18civ map play as America and kick some Aztec butt and try out my own version of the Panama Canal.
Reducing maintenance costs. Having an ally that will vote your way, and declare war on your enemies ect.. But I mostly use them for reducing the costs of a large empire (their land area counts toward a domination victory).
Their crazy but not impossible to deal with, and yes they can take down civs... Even yours if you don't build a proper military. I like this option I'll rush up the Great Wall and let my rivals take the brunt of it. I'll also rotate units into the hinterlands to toughen them up before a nice war.
