    Civ4 PitBoss Available

You do also need to check that the SMTP server routes mail correctly. If you send mail through the server does it get through? Fixing the SMTP service configuration on a Windows 2003 server is going to be beyond the scope of this forum though.

    Civ4 PitBoss Available

Are you running Pitboss from your Civ 4 directory in Program Files? It should be in the same place as the Civ 4 executable.

    Wat Chedi Liem

Here's the page I wrote about Wat Chedi Liem on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wat_Chedi_Liem The name comes from the angular chedi (photo in the article). The building that you have is the bot, or main hall (also a photo in the article). At one end of the bot is a huge painting...

    Strategy, Tactics & Logistics

@ShadowWarrior - Thank you for your thoughtful addition. It was exactly this sort of re-targetting of the articles in here that I was hoping for. I originally wrote this as I was getting sick of people attacking tactical articles because they said the authors idea wouldn't work in this or that...

    Futuristic Mod: Pentagenesis for Conquests

Mac is it? I'm afraid I know nothing about what ships on the Mac version. The place to start is to have a good look through the official web site (http://www.civ3.com/ I think) and download all the graphics extensions (all of them, yes). Keep an eye out for any Mac specific ones. Other than...

    Futuristic Mod: Pentagenesis for Conquests

You got the complete game or some other fully packaged version? It may be that you need to go to the official site and download all of the add-on packs. There's a load of graphics packages. This was a common error for people who had bought Conquests but not PtW. Maybe you have the same problem.

    Strategy, Tactics & Logistics

@Alex Bunn - thanks. I'm pleased you liked it. I talk about winning in Civ really as a backdrop to explain what the terms mean. I think you can look at all of these issues from wargamming, to politics, to business and even computer programming. The basic split between strategy, tactics and...

    Strategy, Tactics & Logistics

BoomWav, thanks for the comments. (Edit: And welcome to CivFanatics!) You're right that I didn't use Gengis in any examples. When looking for examples to use I needed them to conform to two points. The first was that I needed to know and understand them or I couldn't even consider them. The...

    Strategy, Tactics & Logistics

Maybe I expressed myself badly. I was not trying to say that JC was trying to copy Alex, but rather that he was inspired by him. Pompey may well have been trying to compete with him for all I know. I earlier talked about JC finding a statue of Alex whilst he was in Spain. JC weeps because at the...

    Strategy, Tactics & Logistics

Alexander was a historic figure to men like JC and it seems that histroy shows Alex also greatly influenced JC. The story if JC finding a statue of Alexander in Spain is well told (and often told). We were using Alex as an example of a Greek who influenced Roman thinking, but for tactical...

    "Tech jumping"

Quite. At the early part of the game it's possible that it will be worth worrying about, but later on? If that's a concern then you should be playing at a higher level.

    "Tech jumping"

Whohoo, I have permission to batter this a bit more  I think you're right and that means that I have a mistake in my model. I haven't seen the actual formula that is used in any other thread (but I've probably missed it). I can think of two ways of doing it and which they actually did...

    Strategy, Tactics & Logistics

Exactly. Every culture that has fought has had the notion of a 'blooded' warrior, one who had fought in his first battle and then the veterans who have seen action many times. Gumbolt, Machiavelli has a number of interesting analyses of how to take and hold different types of state and...

    Strategy, Tactics & Logistics

Interesting indeed :) I suspect that the Romans learnt much of Greek tactics the same place we learn about them: in their history lessons. Alexander was already a historic figure by JC's time. The thing is of course that just replicating some great leader's strategy in one battle relegates...
