Half the time I use it just to steal resources from already disgruntled AIs. Then later when they invade, they invariably end up marching over it and outright killing some of their units.
I personally don't find early (ancient/classical) warmongering worth it anymore, that is unless your civ is geared towards that (alex/atilla/etc). Seems to just take too long and be inefficient at taking cities. I've had much more success sitting back for 2 eras, improving my tech rate and...
I don't turn on raging barbs because it benefits players and some civs a lot more than others. Other than that I like the challenge that barbs present.

Victory competitiveness: 10

City State Competitiveness: 6

Diplo-Balance: 5?
Warmonger Hate: 1 (I love using warmonger AI's to my own advantage)

Sure it could work, but it's extremely situational as you yourself pointed out.
Also, what? How is early faith generation not helpful to founding a religion on diety? Half the diety strategies listed on various threads involve building stonehenge or allying a religious CS, or rushing for...
Aye in keeping with Alpaca's list: Generally the only times I do are when I notice the potential for incredible science synergy in one of my early city locations. It pretty much has to be one of my first three with an overabundance of jungle such that with a university it'll be enough to...
You need the Papal Primacy founder belief for it to increase a CS's influence automatically. Otherwise you have to wait for them to issue a quest to you saying that they desire your religion (which may never happen).
Generally I like to target clumps of City States on other continents for...
That's what your policies and religion are for. If you're annexing a lot, pagoda's can be very helpful. If you're puppetting stick to beliefs like Goddess of Love (Pantheon), Ceremonial Burial (Founder), or even Asceticism/Peace Gardens (Followers) on the off chance that your puppet produces...
Showing them both as gold would mean that both could be chosen at the same time, which is impossible. As you make one selection, others that are subsequently unlocked will only then show up gold. I'm not trying to be rude, just showing you that something here is clearly wrong. I'd suggest...
I've never known of any such restriction, and almost always get rationalism finished around this time too. Generally I've left the bottom of the tree (the military techs) unfinished though. Which means after stopping at railroad, I can go back (and have done so before) and bulb combined...
That makes no sense D, because you're required to have lasers to unlock stealth, so something doesn't add up.
It's possible you completed refridgeration the same turn and simply lacked plastics (though I don't know why you'd skip it with its research labs) which prevented you from selecting...
Well it's technically not your "only" option.
You could always pay his most hated rival to declare on him for you, which at minimum gets his troops off your borders. At best it means he's out of position and going to get hammered, losing cities in droves. :goodjob:
I think it's absolutely right to blame the way defensive pacts work. I'll agree that the people should know better with how schizophrenic the AI is, but that doesn't change the fact that Firaxis implemented a useless diplomatic tool.
Visible or invisible doesn't really matter, all that...
So much Sweden bashing that it's getting kind of hilarious. Even if you do go full on Domination as Sweden you should still be getting benefits right up until the last civ. As for any other great person you can turn them around and gift them to City States saving you money, getting you...
