Have to say I agree about the awful cartoony graphics. Surely Firaxis knew this would be the general response. Can't help thinking they have shot themselves in the foot big time with these ridiculous graphics.

I usually do the same as aggressive wimp and buy them when I get attacked. Also I build walls/castle if I choose autocracy and have happiness issues.

Oz, it wasn't embassies as we were at war when it happened. One of his minor cities was in view as my units were next to it. But suddenly his capitol and the surrounding tiles lit up during the war. Walter, yes I did have a fighter in the city next to his minor city.

Browd, I don't have the espionage part of the game enabled so that is out. Oz, team mates sounds correct for the new game with Germany but it doesn't explain why Monty's capitol lit up. Thanks guys. I have since started more games which have played out correctly.:)

Thanks for the replies. I did attack America and virtually wiped Washington out. The threat from Shaka didn't materialise and I went on to win a cultural victory without having to face him at all! :)

I certainly don't consider them to be a low tier civ! I find the increased wonder production extremely useful, and the UB really helps out when happiness starts to become an issue. Also, in one game playing as Egypt I got attacked early by an AI and the UU certainly helped out then.

I, too, love the ancient/classical era when you explore and find ideal starting locations. I enjoy going for the early wonders too. The founding and spreading/enhancing of religion is also great fun for me. And I usually put Shaka and Atilla in my games, so I find it spices up the game expecting...

I sometimes find myself declaring war on a civ when they keep bullying my protected city state friends, and they taunt me about the bullying. This infuriates me and I usually hasten to a war to crush the bully!
