The community patch, although geared toward major ai improvements, also has more than a few gameplay changes..So it might not be what you're looking for. The changes made aren't too drastic and most of them have made the game much better in my opinion. Not sure if there's a version of the patch...

There are a lot of holes in the tech tree, it seems very basic, like pikeman not upgrading until AT team?? Musketman not upgrading until infantry. Also, in my game right now its 1760 ad and two civs are in the modern era..pretty immersion breaking.
Civ is one of the few games where you get your money's worth so I have no complaints. The people that are complaining will most likely still get a good 500 hours out of it. The vanilla version is always kinda rough anyways.
Yeah I think it notifies you when barbs are closing in, or do you mean the unit isn't waking up?
What I have yet to find is a diplomatic relations window like in civ 5, I don't know who is at war with what..denouncements etc.. It's weird playing without the info addict mod that's for sure.
