    when to build campus?

    So far, I'm finding what works best for me is at least one early campus. I usually research writing as my 2nd or 3rd tech, depending how soon I encounter another civ. Since most of my cities will have at least one mountain tile, I simply get one, maybe two, campuses out of the way.

    Hey don't feel bad, the only relic I ever got so far was when Montezuma invaded me, and I crushed his invasion force, he offered peace and one of the terms was to give me his relic lol.

    City Strategy - Spam them?

    I prefer "Intelligent City Spam". I like to put out lots cities, but not for the sake of having more cities, I want them to be strategically placed, either location-wise, or resource-wise, and I want to them to have huge production potential.

    Do You Have Specialized Cities?

    This! I didn't pay attention to commercial districts and found myself running at a huge deficit and with districts taking so long to build, I couldn't rectify the problem in time before I ran out of gold. I lost over a third of my units before I was in the surplus again lol.

    First Unit: Warrior or Slinger?

    I have bad luck with barbarians spamming after the first few turns lol. I have to keep my warrior close by, then train a slinger, then I can train a scout. But one game I did get lucky because a nearby village gave me a scout.
