I really like using all the fighter stuff. Random modules, plus some fighter boosting wonders can turn them from cannon fodder into a low to mid level ship.

Any wonder that improves fighters is the best. More targets for the enemy=better. Plus with some tech and one or two wonders fighters basically become low level ships.

I agree. In a game that I'm currently paying as France I haven't prioritized luxuries as much and I'm doing fine. Albeit I'm not doing well enough for any conquest, but I'm doing good enough that I have a nice little buffer in case I have a sudden drop.
