    Beyond Earth Factions

No that I don't doubt that a new British Empire is pretty stupid, but there is more to Britain than just London . And remember London isn't actually on the coast, just on a major river. Places like Manhattan and Rio seem to have survived the sea level rise that everyone's assumed...

    Beyond Earth Factions

Very much this. I am absolutely delighted that there's going to be an Australian/Pacific faction in the game. It's an under-represented part of the world that I'm personally connected with, out of the 8 fractions it's probably the one I'm the most happy to see. That's probably why I'm so...

    Beyond Earth Factions

Thanks. And I agree, it's not the biggest issue in the world. But we know the devs do come on these forums, and on the off chance it is a placehoder and they might consider changing it there's no harm in setting out a good case.

    Beyond Earth Factions

Polynesia - comes from Greek 'poly' (many) and 'nēsos' (island) Australia - comes from Latin 'australis' (southern) Not only is 'Polystralia' a bastard combination of Greek and Latin words, it just doesn't mean anything - 'many-land'?? It's rubbish, they've taken half of a Latin word and...

    Beyond Earth Factions

Firstly this is 200 years, anything could happen. 200 years ago Australia had barely even been settled. More importantly though, this is after the apocalypse, or at least something doing a good impression of it, all of geo-politics would be up in the air. But the thing that everyone forgets...

Brazilia development threatens world air supply

Umm, that's not photosynthesis. That's photosynthesis. Plants absorb carbon out of the atmosphere, it's called carbon fixation. The Amazon stores a huge amount of carbon, apparently of the order of 130 billion metric tonnes.

If only those Arab states had some sort of useful resource they could trade  . Of course it depends on the exact details of "The Great Mistake", but from what it seems the rest of the world will probably still need oil. What you're saying would apply much more to rich nations with...

    Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth

It's actually pretty common in video games. TVtropes gives plenty of examples, such as Star Wars: Jedi Knight, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Command & Conquer: Red Alert and plenty more. All popular games with loads of squeals and expansion packs with more than one...

If you could add great works what would they be?

Quote from Firaxis: I think the key bit people forget is the 100 years thing. To take some earlier examples in the thread; Tolkien, The Beatles, Hemingway, Orwell etc are all out, no matter how good a fir they would be. Secondly, nationality. From the above list you have; English, English...

    Too Much Western Art

Copyright and legal issues. The devs have said basically nothing from the past 100 years can be included. It's not totally followed for some of the obscure people, but the cost for even a 5 second clip of Elvis or the Beatles would make it near-impossible.

Only the one: Frederic Chopin - Raindrops.

    Too Much Western Art

Actually, let me go back slightly on my earlier post. Looking at the Artists specifically the results aren't great: 16% English and American but another 62% Western European, with only 20% other (Arabic, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Persian). So overall, the picture looks like this (with some...

    Too Much Western Art

Firstly, just because you haven't seen them don't mean there aren't any. I've only gone through the Writers and Musicians and found: African: Sayed Darwish, Solomon Linda Native American: Louis W. Ballard, R. Carlos Nakai Latin American: at least 10, including Argentine, Brazilian, Colombian...

Box Art for Brave New World being revealed

Smart answer: that's because we're looking from the point of view of the leaders/dictators/whoever at the front, who don't see it in those terms. To the people looking up at their 'leaders', the socialist is on the left and the fascist is on the right. Real answer: it makes no difference and...

    Hoax, or very early build?

Yeah, I uploaded the important ones to imgur, but uploading 78 full-sized screenshots was beyond my internet capacity. It's simple enough to download the .rar though. PLEASE NOTE you don't need to download the site's .exe, just click on the filename in the link. It's amazing how many people seem...
