    Immortal and Deity Without RAs

Thanks for the replies all. It seems like I am not alone in my experiences. Playing without RAs (even in a peaceful game) may not be optimal, but most of the time it doesn't seem to be a significant handicap either based on your feedback. That is encouraging because I personally feel the more...

    [Guide] Mauling Deity

I actually take things one step further in the early game. I generally will look at a city 1-2 turns before growth (especially when I have only a capital city). If I can grow the city in the same number of turns but grab a few extra hammers/gold by switching to a lower food-higher...

    [Guide] Mauling Deity

I do not think the issue is an aversion to creativity. I think many here regularly push themselves to try unconventional strategies. I just know from my experiences on deity, which are certainly not extensive compared to the more active posters here, much of your strategy runs counter to my own...

    Immortal and Deity Without RAs

Hello, After a lengthy break from Civ 5 (the result of a lack of time rather than any issue with the game), I came back to play a few games of Gods and Kings. I am a fan of the expansion, and I do appreciate some of the balance changes. One in particular seemed overdue - the modification...

"Random" AI civs don't really seem random

Yes, it's important to note that the pattern was recognized after the fact. Presumably, the OP only finds Carthage, Ethiopia, and the Celts significant because they are G&K civs, and he noticed a pattern. I imagine had it been 3 other G&K civs, he would have made the same observation. So while...

    Consensus on AI in Civ5

It all comes down to your expectations. CiV has a recreational gaming AI. That means the quality of the AI is largely constrained by two things: development resources and the speed of AI decision-making. On a limited budget with an emphasis on fast decision-making, I find the CiV AI to be...

    The were warned...

Oh just for clarification since it may not have come across, my idea on embarkation was to allow embarking only from within a coastal city borders but allow landing anywhere once embarked. So it's more of a one-way ticket rather than a city-to-city mechanism.

    The were warned...

I personally enjoy the naval aspects of civ 5 more than previous incarnations. That said, I think there is still room for improvement. Perhaps they could take a slightly different approach (this is just a brief thought and likely has some flaws in it): 1.) Any land unit can embark by entering...

    Funny things leaders say

Glad I am not the only one. I always heard "Hey Sausage Man" from Genghis. I guess when playing Germany, that isn't necessarily that much of a stretch.

You're right to worry and it's time for you to die?

As was mentioned before, I think people are viewing this in the wrong light. This is not "Tell me what your troops are doing there". I view this as "If you do not guarantee that you aren't planning to attack me, I am going to forcefully remove your troops from my border". This works both...

    I opened my borders ....

So in 2 turns, a roughly 13x17 carpet of AI units managed to fill your entire empire... If this were possible, you should be chastised for not noticing the 18-100 units visible around your borders prior to the open borders agreement :p.

    Any Deity Stats and Trends?

Hello Everyone, So I have been playing on Deity to challenge myself and to better understand the game. One of the problems I encounter however is the few times where I start the game out particularly well, I am reluctant to finish it out because I do not have reasonable expectations for what...

The Siege of Opis: Proof that the tactical AI is insane

Maybe the AI is actually rather brilliant and is simply farming XP ;).

Can anyone run this game at 2560x1600

I run on a Dell 30 inch, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Radeon 4890 without any issues.

    stopping production?

Also, you can always create new units or buildings and sell them upon completion if your intent is to keep maintenance low. Sinking hammers into a Wonder you don't intend to complete is also an efficient way to convert hammers into gold when you don't see value in your production elsewhere.
