Hmmm, ok, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info (and anything, guidelines, etc. you can share!), mischa.
(I'm not shy when it comes to manipulating data & logic, but something about visual effects intimidates me ;) )
...So has anyone gotten a working G&K version of these art defines put together? I see there are one-offs people have done, but an updated xml would be very helpful...
Oh, just saw this... upload? :D
City Raider, City Raider, City Raider!
Only when I lack total field superiority would I even contemplate anything else, and that is usually the Combat promotion to counter anti-melee or anti-cavalry with which my opponent is swarming me.
Generally, I'll send a long train of catapults with an...
Medieval? You should have one BEFORE Classical and one or two DURING Classical :D
Yes, I believe I advocated doing the rush ASAP.... In the (Prince, Ice Age) game I just ran, the only reason I built Settlers is because I couldn't find my neighbors' borders until I'd popped out two more cities...

I don't think the AI can handle an early rush at all... It can recognize it, but it can't do anything about it... (Remember, the AI is the same AI at all levels, just with production bonuses at high levels)
With chariots, you have to execute flawlessly...It's not that hard, you just have to NOT make any mistakes... However, you can get them Very Early, and they are CHEAPER than everything except Warriors...plus Move of Two = Double Pillage.......also, I just cut off the roads all around the city...
I can only speak for the success on Prince level but I concur (I use Egypt instead of Persia, btw...) ...but...as far as the bolded comments above... You didn't cut off their bronze/iron? Or they just happened to have some spears already built? The best thing to do, btw in that situation is...
Ehh, Knights I can see not having a problem with, but Cavalry are 50% stronger than Knights, base... Of course, if you're still running praetorians when they've got Cavalry, you deserve what you get :p
