I found three to be a pretty good number (and 3-5 a nice range). I build 3 early cities and a guild in each one, have each city specialize in a certain great person. I also never run out of room for great works with 3 cities, especially with all the wonders I build

Assyrias UU is crazy powerful. It laughs at cities. A battering ram only better! And the great library helps you not only militarily and with science, but it also prevents against late game ideology unhappiness with the tourism stuff. Assyria is now one of my favorite civs in this game.

I went Tradition all the time in G&K. Now that BNW is here, I go almost exclusively Liberty in the early game. My capital is now spending the early game making trade routes and units to defend myself. I don't have time to build a settler or a worker, and certainly don't have the gold to buy...

I have actually had huge success with Liberty in BNW where I never used it in G&K. With having to get the early trade routes, it allows you to set up your economy without having to worry about building a worker or your second settler. A huge help in establishing an early empire i think.

I picked Assyria, Morocco and the Shoshone. Assyria because a science/war civ is always a powerful feat to behold. Morocco because they will simply buy the game given enough time. And Shoshone because they will take all the land and get an early game jump start on you

I'm not more encouraged really. I almost always go science win and that requires you to play till the end anyways. I am looking forward to the later turns being spiced up though. Towards the end of the game it always turns into just killing turns until you win, and this might just change that.

This is my favorite way to play civ. I do it on a small map, 22 players, and leave no victory conditions on but Domination just to see who comes out on top (at least before I crush them)
