Hi - any further hints on getting Civ4 to run on Windows 10?
I have the steam version of Civ4 with both Warlords and BTS.
I am trying to launch BTS. What I found is that it will launch but it tells me that my computer is too underpowered (!) and puts me into a ridiculously low graphics mode...
It’s more this - I was just wanting to take out one civ as I was pretty boxed in.
That said, I have read in one of the strategy guides on this site that you should aim for having 10 cities by turn 100 - this seems a pretty hard thing to do unless you conquer at least some of them as you can’t...
I’ve also just read that if you have GS, for each other AI capital you take over you get a permanent -3 per turn in diplomatic favour? Is that correct and if so is that likely to cause me major issues later in the game?
In the end I won the game as the AI did pile on in the next congress. Also I headed off the SOL by building it myself and I think the other 2 were already built by other AI (at least it didn’t seem any issue). However they ended on 18 points I think.
Edit - ^^ how to I leave the voting screen...
Hi - can I just ask is it normally feasible to take over another civ’s cities really early in the game if I get archers early? I tried this with slingers and warriors against Japan but it’s didn’t work - I guess I need at least archers so I can bombard them from 2 squares away for a while?
Well at the moment I am building the moon landing project - trying to find ways to boost production e.g. I have just moved Magnus with all promotions to the city where I am building it as there are several industrical zones in nearby cities - hopefully this makes sense?
I am playing on easy settler level and the above is not what I am seeing at all.
I got to the dimplomatic session and Tamar of Georgia was on 14 points.
At the session, one of the votes as described above was for someone to gain or lose 2 DVP. I voted for Tamar to lose 2 DVP.
I lost all...
Thanks for the replies - I got a better handle on it after playing some more today.
The other thing I learned the hard way is not to end the war too early - as soon as I end the war, if the opponent cedes the city to me I lost the garrison points and then I was way down on loyalty - better to...
OK - a bit strange but understood. Anyway if I understand you the bottom line is that I don’t need to worry about the AI winning a diplomatic victory coz they won’t.
You mean vote with all my points for the leading AI Civ to lose 2? I think I already did that once when they had 12 points and they still won the vote - maybe I didn't use enough of my diplomatic power.
Also not sure what you mean by gaming the system? How could I win for voting for myself to...
New player here - I am in the later stages of the game on settler mode going for a science victory.
One of the AI is threatening diplomatic victory with 14 points on about turn 350 or so. I have not focussed on diplomacy at all in the game.
Is there a way to interfere with them and block them...
Am I right in thinking that there is effectively no diplomatic penalty for waging war as long are you are still in the ancient era? This is my understanding from the articles I’ve read but I just wanted to check?
Thanks this is helpful - however maybe I just placed the city wrongly - I am getting -20 and the city is already unrest with a governor in place, so I don’t see how that could be recovered even if I had all the bonuses mentioned….
HI - if I have a city that has fallen into unrest is there anything I can do to try and stop it becoming a free city?
I sent a governor there but the city had already fallen into unrest when the governor arrived - from what I can see now, I can’t see any way to prevent it declaring independence?
