I started with civ I and was fairly addicted to it, though i hated losing tanks to spearmen etc
Civ 2 was brilliant, played more of that than anything else.
Civ 3 i actually didnt play as much
CIV 4, god did i play that to death
Civ 5, to be honest its the first time i havent got hooked, i...
I think in the 'age of sail' naval power SHOULD be totally vital until the age of flight.. and yes the royal navy is an excellent example of what a powerful navy can do.
Nothing to fix imho.
personal experience was liz was very very strong
but my quickest (embarrasingly quick) wins were with rome (i had iron in the bfc)
and with the incans on a marathon pangea which felt more an exploit than merely a good leader...quechua rush, kill kill, kill...ooops all dead
I always thought it was my machine that is the issue until i read some of the threads
What i dont understand is, if so many people cant play giant maps, why are so many custom maps giant size ;)
I would kill for a standard sized european map ;)
To be honest, i doubt any of the people on civfanatics are intermediate, everyone seems to be at least mon/emp players.
I imagine joe public never gets past noble... the site is called civfanatics for a reason :)
Its silly things for me, i miss the excitement of rolling a double gold and food or whatever, now every start is pretty much the same

I may start playing iv again though- i havent been able to get into V at all and in the 6 weeks since i bought it have finished 2 games and clocked 30 odd hours...
gosh - it was amazing for its time, but wasnt I a bit primitive for todays world?
I seem to remember it had no HP system, so 'spearmen kill battleship' wasnt even that rare?
I do remember that they put a LOT of work into city screens, hand drawn changing leaders etc though
I remember smac only vaguely if im honest.. i remember playing a faction that could use mind control worms really well?.
