  • Hey, could you resend the last PM you sent me? I was saving it till today when I had time to go read it thoroughly instead of skimming. But my PM box get filled up and I emptied while forgetting that I had that PM I still wanted to read in it.

There is no 'trash bin' I can go to to dig it out. :(
I don't really argue it that way since I don't tend to agree with government "Encouraging behaviors" but if they can encourage health behaviors by dictating rules about packaging, why can't they encourage morality by refusing to officially recognize gay marriages? I don't see any logical difference here, except that the gay marriage thing is even less a big deal because a gay marriage ban doesn't ACTUALLY stop you from doing anything you like. The soda thing prevents you from getting a 32 ounce soda. Sure you can get 2 16 ounces, but hey, its more inconvenient. So its encouraging a healthy decision. What's the difference between that and "Encouraging" morality by banning gay marriages?
Come to think of it, couldn't that whole "Enocuraging good choices without enforcing them" thing that you used to defend Bloomberg's law just as easily be used to oppose gay marriage? (I moved this to VM because I don't want to hijack Abegweit's thread again.)

I mean, banning gay marriage is not actually banning an activity at all. Nobody is going to go to jail for havng a gay marriage ceremony without government sanction. All it really is is government encouragement for moral behavior.
hahahaha omg really? <on the clone jesus thread.> Do you know how hard it is to not laugh hysterically in my office right now?
I think it's actively discouraged and one rabbi's blog I read went into great detail about how it was theologically inaccurate and most unhelpful. :)
He's a Jewish creationist, Peter. I think that having a misguided view of atheism is the least of his worries.
