Well, it was good while it lasted. The viewports got me further along than I've been in quite a while, but still getting MAFs by halfway through.

The viewports seem to be doing the trick for me. No MAFs yet. Still hoping for some other fix even if this does work, because viewports are incredibly annoying.

It's some kind of bug, not just a matter of people running out of RAM. I played for years with no MAFs until I updated a few months ago. Now the game is unplayable due to constant MAFs even with small maps/few civs, even after multiple attempts at a full reinstall.

Yes, I second this. I had absolutely no issue playing giant maps with 30+ civs and revolutions for years, until I made the mistake of updating a few months ago. Now the MAFs make the game unplayable a couple hundred turns in, even with reduced civs and map sizes.

Actually, this is worth looking into. I upgraded from an old version of the Civ pack to 3.1 at the same time I updated to rev 1082. Perhaps I'll try reverting back to that older version of the Civ pack and see if I still have the problem.

I had, but I ran a game on a clean install with just AND and the Mega Civ pack and still started getting the MAFs a few hundred turns in, so I don't think the player counts are getting too high. Never had this issue until updating to the latest revision (from, I think, 1068).

Good to know I'm not the only one so hopefully the problem can be identified and fixed. I just tried scaling down my civs and map sizes and turning off revolutions to make sure I'm not taxing my system, but no luck...really frustrating.
