On the topic of playthroughs, are there any videos on YouTube (or elsewhere) that focus on discussion of in-game strategy? A quick search on YouTube returns a number of Civ1 videos, but none of them seem to really delve into strategy. I’m interested in watching a strong player explain the logic...
I think an interesting option would be a rule that penalizes human player by $100 if a lone diplomat is killed. Diplomats are very valuable for being maintenance free and zero impact on unhappiness, this rule tweak might force us to consider more carefully how we use them in the early-mid game.
I’ve never attempted this strategy, but the one piece of guidance I’ll give you is that occasionally, enemy civs will unload a military unit directly into an undefended city. (I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen barbs do it, but I know I’ve seen other civs do it.) So leaving the coastal cities...
Tupi, your continent policy description explains (I think) some odd behavior I’ve observed from AI. I notice that AI often leaves land unimproved and desirable sites unsettled on large continents. Larger continents will tend to have more enemy civs/units, which means (based on your description)...
Just today I was playing a game and a barbarian diplomat sabotaged my production after his legion “escort” was defeated. That’s quite a rare message, 99%+ of the time they try to run away.
I prefer to research Bronze Working first for a few reasons:
-You are blocked from researching it second (it will not appear on the list of techs to research next) so you’ll have to wait until your third tech.
-On emperor any exploring unit will be toast when unleashing a horde of barbarians...
