I just loaded one of my games and a few civilizations switched around. For example, Spain became Inca (with all Spanish city names) and Mongolia became Babylon (with Mongolian city names.) A few like Russia, Rome and China stayed the same. Also, I couldn't spend any money.

I've wondered this too. Naming units would certainly help me keep track of them a little better, and perhaps prevent me from using them as cannon fodder as often as I do.
I find the theme/UI has a very optimistic feel, as though your people are always looking forward to the future. It's better than any previous Civ game, imo. My only complaint was that they didn't include any solid stats (presumably so you didn't know the AI was cheating) but infoaddict fixes that.
I play Tropico 4, Sim City 4, Transport Tycoon, and I'm attempting to develop my own web based strategy game very similar to Civ V, but more suited to my own tastes.
I've been offered 78 gold to open my borders by neighbors who had denounced me, and both times it was because they wanted to move troops through my territory to go attack another civ. It may have just been coincidence that it happened both times, though.
