    AI in cheat shocker horror

There are posts about this AI-information bug on RB or somewhere... there is a bug with the AI's information, but it's not specifically about resource locations. The problem is that the terrain evaluator tells the AI the true value (potential production bonuses included) of land when there...

Most Uber unit you ever had?

... And, they shoot back at airplanes.

    Flying Camera Mode?

No, it's a ground-level view where you zoom around inside your civilization, using mouse motion to steer and move. It's a bit... goofy, since's it's a fullsize view of your towns and cottages and so on, with these gargantuan warriors standing astride the towns defending them.

    Japan and Xenophobia

It's a nice little historical trait; the Japanese were fairly standoffish through a lot of their history. Tokogawa also hoards his techs in my games; he's almost as bad as Alexander, who I'm really starting to dislike.

    Real AI?

I have a suspicion that the AI might be made to play a more challenging game if it had more "traditional-AI" problem-solving structure, but at a big cost: it would be less fun to play. The AI right now feels pattern-based... I'd guess it's based on recognizing situations and using them to...

Basic Noob City Finance and Roads questions

Usually rivers are enough to connect resources. Although, at the tip of a river like that I seem to recall needing to road a little bit to "connect" the resource to the river, as if being at the end of the river doesn't do it. It's good to know that you can mix roads and rivers; if you've...

3350 shields of cannons versus 3350 shields of infantry and tanks

Good reminder. In the flow of the game, I'm always feeling like I'm building a fair balance of cats/etc... until push comes to shove (i.e. Monty or Isabella show up.) Then it's why oh why didn't I build a few more canons?

    Idiot mistakes 101

That's me, right there. (I've started using the "build trade network" as the way to sleep workers after the pre-rail development is done. The workers go nap in a city until there's roading or railroading to do, then they jump by themselves to build railroad or repair pillaged roads. So then...

    Upgrading Units

I've had 2100 a few times from a Great Merchant on a standard map; I think that's the highest I've seen as well.

    Most overpowered unit?

The Praetorian will probably hold the title... until Beserk.4 comes out :viking: Extra-strength Axeman with amphibious bonus. I'm so ready.

    Cold war

Can you do that if he's got a continent with a cultural fringe into the water all around? You can't move warships into hostile water without war... have you tried a Caravel to slip him in? You might get border warning the way you do if there's a Missionary on board, or you might not.

Penalties in Beelining to a Tech? eg Crossbowmen or Musketmen

Not exactly. There's an analysis of research costs in the articles area. There are couple of factors: having more of the optional prerequisites for a tech makes research cheaper, and the more AI's who know the tech, the cheaper it is to research. Both can come into play when you beeline...

    When to use specialists?

If the city's up against a health limit, it might be just as well to slow growth, until you fix the health problem. Specialists can do that, and may even speed that help along (if you have to build something, assigning an engineer specialist can bring it in sooner.) I often find myself...

Tech defecit, how do you close the gap?

Specialists help, if you're too overextended to research competitively. Picking a few cities to staff with a Scientist and/or a Merchant can boost your tech rate and patch some economic holes. The much-maligned Mercantilism can help (free specialist.) I find Mercantilism in the early Middle...
