    Unbreakable peace treaties

Yeah, that's right. I was, it seems, :smoke: when I typed that.

The way to recreate war fronts and pull combats out of cities without changing rules:

I've always been curious as to how CIV would play with a logistic cost applied to stacking units. Something like (Unit_Upkeep = Base_Upkeep * Units_in_Stack * 1.1), so the costs increase geometrically with the number of stacked units, making large SoDs a serious guns-or-butter decision. Or...

Civ IV song "Baba Yetu" nominated for a Grammy

    [party]Tin wins it! And it's well-deserved.[party]

[Reopened Thread] You Don't Like Civ5? How to Make a Difference.

While the Federal Communications Commission may sound like a good place to vent, what with the whole "communications" thing, I suspect you may mean the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC handles complaints about false advertising, consumer fraud, and suchlike. The FCC makes sure broadcasters...

Missionary Positions, And Shrine City Love

The only negative I can dream up is that you no longer gain intelligence about the rival's land via the missionaries' visibility. It's pretty minor, but I can see a case for keeping a missionary under your control if you want to update your map. I think the advantages of giving 'em away nearly...

    Problems with Patch 1.74

I did a little poking around and I see this is not an uncommon problem. The solution I've seen is to download and install the DirectX runtime whatsidoodle from here, which seems to solve it most of the time. The issue appears to be a missing DirectX .dll file. Hopefully, that'll solve your ills.

    about Barbarians...

There's a mod called BarbarianCiv (originally part of Next War and included in Rise of Mankind, but available as a standalone). In it, barbarian cities that aren't destroyed eventually become a minor civ, then a fully-blown civ. They gain some free techs and units when they enter the minors...

Civ IV Diplomacy - AI relations and demands

Sure, that's the ideal. But then the AI would also have to be able to evaluate whether a war request is plausible and not ask for help against, for example, an unreachable opponent. Otherwise it would be even more difficult to make and keep friends. Mind you, it should do that anyway--I...

    A Noble Dilemma

At a guess, it's diplomacy. Try to avoid founding early religions, for example, and certainly don't convert to any until you see how things're panning out. Make sure you get trade routes going early, so religion will spread into your lands, then pick the one that looks like it'll be the most...

    Share your Civ Fanaticism

You might find it useful to read through a couple-few succession games here in the forum. (Here.) A succession game is when a number of players take turns controlling a civ in a game and discuss their plans and strategies on the forum. I find SGs more interesting, usually, than single-person...

    Question about extremely isolated starts

Galleys can enter ocean tiles within cultural borders, so after the first border expansion, the shore is reachable. Indeed, it appears Capac has cities on the mainland.

    Backstab or not ?

Catherine won't plan a war with you when she's friendly, but can at pleased. However, she's unique in that she can be -bribed- into war against someone with whom she is friendly. Sharing borders with her makes me nervous. One option is to bribe her into joining your war, or more broadly, to...

Golden Ages and Great People - A quick question

Pretty darned useful. I'm not a great player, so I can't give you a thesis on gold ages, but I use them a good bit mid- to late-game. Early game, your lands and aren't well-developed enough to take full advantage. I play at epic, and I'll pull the trigger two or three times in a game, usually...
