While I enjoyed Civ IV vanilla by itself prior to the expansions, I did NOT enjoy Hearts of Iron III vanilla at all given its egregious lack of credible AI. No more Paradox games for me. SSI's Clash of Steel from over a decade ago was more playable than HOI 3.
The irreversible social policies add a layer of long-term strategy that Civ IV completely lacks. Instead of building up a repertoire of options that can be switched among a la Civ IV civics, you are now picking permanent bonuses for your civilization. As has already been posted in the Strategy...
I conquered India's sole city in the prior turn from this saved game. As this turn begins, I have just been told that the city-state of Venice is now the ally of India, and has declared war on me! This was with the latest executable version (although the game was begun under the original...
I suspect it is because I made peace with Catherine, as I was able to reproduce it from an earlier turn with a sequence of actions that included that. I probably have another saved game somewhere of the turn just before this where folks could do more intensive testing to determine if this is...
I cannot determine whether I can fix my problem with a change in video or other settings. I have a save game that crashes whenever I click the End Turn button...anyone want to try it on their system? I have just recently concluded peace with an enemy after some warmongering. DX9 vs DX11 makes no...
While it would have been nice to have an AI as good as Galactic Civilization 2 or other much touted examples of AI, I'll take a so-so AI with boosts over feature-laden garbage with poor AI. Anyone who thinks more equals better needs to play Hearts of Iron 3, which surely rates in the annals of...
God, this brings back memories of playing CivNet with my buddy. My caravan crossed one of his city squares on its way somewhere. Since the primitive Civ 1 engine had no notion of a truely invisible "friendly" unit, all production in that square stopped, as if it had been occupied by a...
That site is buggy. It thinks my E8400 (3.0 Ghz dual core Core2 microarchitecture) fails the minimum requirement of 1.8 GHz. It also thinks my 9800GT has 4 GB on-board RAM. Of course, if you know enough to know it's wrong, you won't need the site. If you do not know enough about internal details...
I don't know about the first poster (ranger101 is not a relative of mine :D), but I didn't mean to imply that folks should get an automatic "Nazi" label for wanting Hitler in the game. My own post pointed out that there are *some* folks, not many, if you read closely in their posts, who have...
Civ IV is not primarily a vehicle for teaching history, and mounting a high horse and pretending that it is weakens your argument. Civ is a game, and games simply don't have the same obligations that history textbooks do. Your post fancies there to be some sort of social contract that Civ IV is...
I actually had the suicide amphibious stack of non-marines used on me my first BtS game. I was squashing Alexander with my bombers, tanks & mech infantry, along with some marines to attack the tough guys first straight off the transport (but I was still using amphib attacks with tanks as the...
I think North Korea's government provides rich material for the Civilization series. The translated press release stated, "The nuclear test was conducted with indigenous wisdom and technology 100 percent." I'd like to have a foreign leader offer me some of his "indigenous wisdom" (and the...
Reminds me of the time in Civ 1 when I discovered the secrets of Advanced Flight from a barbarian hut; for those of you who don't remember that far back, that tech lets you build Bombers. Maybe these barbarians were starfarers from another world who crashlanded on earth...
