I guess this is more of a rant. While I like some of the new AI behaviour, I'm finding the smarter barbs just plain annoying. It seems almost useless to stand on Forest/Hill now cuz the barbs will just continuously dance around you without engaging.
And when there is that barb archer...
Roosevelt is quite good when you have a bunch of low production cities. He gets half price on all the expensive buildings which can really get that coastal city with no hills going. The Forge adds to the whips and allows you to run an Engineer specialist so you can get 2 hammers. Quick...
I prefer Org, the ability to build 3 good buildings (Lighthouse, Courthouse, Factory) is very useful. The lowered maintenance cost help you expand quicker.
I find myself using Cottages less as I am moving up the levels. I only build Cottages in a few of my cities. Financial tends to corner...
You can chain irrigation in all 8 directions over flat plains and grassland. You cannot chain over anything else, including tundra. You can however, build Farms over tundra that is next to fresh water (ie. river or lake).
You can chain through a city as well, provided it is a flat plain or...
The more I think about it, I find that the Feudalism bulb to be impractical. Mainly cuz you have to build either the Pyramids or Hanging Gardens to get GE points. Then you need to wait 50 turns to pop a GE.
Now let's say you build the Pyramids. This unlocks Representation. Going for...
It really does depend on a number of factors in games. But it sounds like going Currency->CoL sounds better for you.
I typically go upper route of the tech tree if I built the GLH or if I'm focused on economy. It also synergizes well if you want to get a Great Merchant so you can bulb Civil...
Well not literally zero production, but cities that have a hard time getting past 4 hammers per turn due to the given tiles (likely water tiles)
I typically build the minimum amount of necessary buildings and then I use that city to build spies, workers, or settlers. Basically things I need...
I haven't used the Berserker before, but how useful is the amphibious really?
I find the strength of amphibious assaults lies in having ships that can bombard defenses to 0% very quickly. However with Berserkers, you only have Galley's at your disposal. And by the time you get Astronomy...
Windmills + Watermills + Workshops work better mid game after you get Replaceable Parts and Chemistry. If you're using Caste System, even better. State Property, awesome. Until you get Railroads and Biology, Farms/Mines are less optimal.
There are some balance issues for sure. Some UB's and UU's could use some balancing.
I do agree that Bronze Working is overpowered for someone who has Copper in their BFC. I think Archery should be replaced with something like Warrior Code. And all melee units require Warrior Code AND...
I do like playing with random events, however, there are some events that I don't like. Mainly the ones that give free, overpowered gifts or upgrades. I don't mind earning them through a quest, but something powerful should not be given for free. Examples:
-free Golden Age due to some guy...
I almost never go for early religion, but I rolled Isabella where I settled on a Dye. Working a clam tile, I had 12 beakers/turn to start. I thought it was a pretty safe to go for Buddhism since I had a high commerce start.
I was projected to discover Buddhism on turn 9, but it turns out that...
