Civs aplenty as Civ 5 Website Updates

More news just reported on IGN is that Civ5 is officially being released Sept. 21. Not sure if this was already known/established. See http://pc.ign.com/articles/109/1096567p1.html

    FfH2 Bug Thread

I have been noticing that the "loyalty" promotion does not seem to work as advertised (or perhaps not at all). For example, even though patch "n" now grants the loyalty promotion to the Sons of the Inferno unit in Acheron's city, that did not stop me last night from going to that city with...

New strategy with "sons of arsena" dragon units

Yeah, it is true that the fire elemental will attack weak, undefended units but I have never seen them attack stacks of strong, well-defended units. I just have a stack of units fortified next to Acheron's city and then have Gibbon (and/or Coraline) dominate a "son of inferno" each turn. Once...

New strategy with "sons of arsena" dragon units

Yeah, you need to install a later patch, as pointed out by Emptiness -- these are newly created units for the game that were created as part of "patch k". Sorry again about the name confusion on my part -- I do not know how I ended up getting so confused. I pulled up the game agains last night...

New strategy with "sons of arsena" dragon units

Sorry for getting the name wrong. I would have to go back and double-check the name, but I do not have the game with me here at work. I do not recall them being named "sons of inferno" but, whatever they are called, I am talking about the super-level 3 fire-spewing mages that spawn in what I...

New strategy with "sons of arsena" dragon units

I just posted this on the "bug" thread, as I think it raises a game balance issue, but I have come up with a very fun strategy which takes advantage of the new barbarian "sons of arsena" unit that is generated in the dragon city (with many of them generated at the higher difficulties). Get an...

    FfH2 Bug Thread

This is not a "bug" per se, but arguably a "game balance" issue resulting from the recent introduction of the "sons of arsena" unit in the dragon city. First of all, though, thanks much for developing and continually upgrading such an awesome mod. I rarely go back to play "normal" civ, FFH is...

    G-Major 61

Sounds possibly the result of an apostolic palace vote, if you have no city with that religion but all of the ai opponents do?

    G-Major 61

It has been over a year since I have done one of these gauntlets, but I figured it was time to give another one a shot. For some reason, I picked this one. It was tedious and it did take FOREVER, but I finally managed to finish with a lackluster 1979 score. I picked only two continents, using...

Civ 3 not running on my Dell Inspiron Mini

Yeah, Thanks Mr.Stibbons. I just bought a Dell mini, had the same problem, was getting quite frustrated, but your "fix" took care of it! Thanks also for the ASTRAY link as well, as it is giving me better options for dealing with this tiny screen! (I have not figured out how to get it to use...

GotW - Sept. 21-28 - anyone still playing?

There has been so little activity on this message board about GOTW that I hardly check it anymore. I would have been happy to respond to your message otherwise, if I saw it last week. I have been playing the deity level. The trick I came up with for last week's map was building the initial...

GOTW tips, tricks and anything else

Hi, Aaron. Nice score -- yer gettin' close. If the defender has either a spy or a great person in the city (settled or not settled), then that will cause the flag to show, and that unit will necessitate an extra move to capture the city (unless your attacking unit is strong enough to do an...

GOTW tips, tricks and anything else

I did not think of using a galley for this week's GOTW. But I suspect using the trick of placing workers in the lake will not work to spawn the galley there if your city is also adjacent to one or more ocean squares -- the game is probably programmed to pick an ocean square over a lake square...

    GOTW ruined

Just chiming in here. I was also disappointed to see the step-by-step guide posted for last week's deity GOTW, as that sort of thing really does ruin the fun of the competition. I am often happy to give out a hint or two to somebody who is working hard to figure it out themselves, but these...

    answers please

You are on the right track in thinking about using the galley to shave off a turn or two of land movement. You probably need to rethink the starting location of your city. ;)
