Which Difficulty Level will you try first? (Poll)

Noble for me; the thing that held me back from going any higher than noble in Civ4 was my abject refusal to bother with the stupid war system. This new one seems entertaining and rich in tactical and strategic options, so I'll start at noble and see where it takes me. edit: someone said Prince...

Answer to people who wondered why 2K use Steam even for retail...

To recap the point I was making in my deleted post: If you don't like steam, that's a shame. You have several options: 1) don't buy Civilization 5. Vote with your wallet. 2) send petitions to 2K. If they got 10,000 handwritten letters, they'd listen for Civ6 (or "Civilization 5: Milking the...

    Turning off Barbs considered "cheating"??

it's only cheating if you think it is. This is a single player game. You make the rules. Period. Lowering the difficulty (or raising it) is as much a cheat as this. Theoretically, I wouldn't want to read a strategy AAR here where someone went hog-crazy with cheats, but other than that it...

WORLD CUP 2010: England vs. USA (A little Duel Match)

O HAI I MAEK MINIMOD. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/734502/Football%20Names.zip Changes the default city names to REAL CLUBS, for both USA and England (like hell I'm implementing the rest of the world!) Note that, where there were no real clubs (only USA), I appended FC. Might wanna put it in OP...

Back to Vanilla's and Warlord's diety

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet! Okay, yeah, that's all I know. I really should memorize the first passage, but whatever.

Back to Vanilla's and Warlord's diety

Not exactly a latin scholar, but some google searches indicate that dei is a possessive form of "deus", not a plural, e.g. "Agnus Dei" (Lamb of God) "Opus Dei" (Work of God) "Dei gratia" (By the grace of God) Not trying to insult you; latin is a pain in the ass.

Back to Vanilla's and Warlord's diety

You'll find english has very few words that are derived from english roots; we've got a mish-mash of germanic, celtic, and latin roots, along with a smattering of roots from around the world ("mish-mash" comes from the germanic "maisk", which derived in turn from the Indo-European "meik", to...

    I hate capitulation!!!!

Why not have it play like Hearts of Iron 3? In that game, they have a virtually identical system of "Puppet States". Any land captured by a puppet state goes directly to the control of it's puppeteer. I don't know the lua, but would it be possible to change that?

Could someone convert these 6 textures for me?

This is random, but cool to see another user who's seen the dropbox light. It's too bad you use a mac, otherwise the wonders of Irfanview would be yours. http://www.irfanview.com/ You know you've found the last image viewer/converter program you'll ever need when it has plugins to play mp3s and...

    nuclear plant in OCC

If it has a decent chance of happening once or twice in a game, that's a realistic probability. Remember, a game of CIV is the ENTIRETY of Human History up to the early 2000s. It's happened once here. There have been several situations that had at least some chance to be just as bad as...

    Absurd luck

Remember, I didn't know there was Iron there when I settled it. In retrospect, 1S IS the best spot, but at the time I wanted lots of grassland tiles to balance out the plains hills.

    Absurd luck

Planet Generator 0.68, but I was using "Standard" resource distribution settings, IIRC. I do play Wet/Cold because I love me some forested grassland, however.

    Absurd luck

Don't you love utterly ridiculous starts? I get a Gold+3food+Clams start; in retrospect probably should have settled 1S for lighthouse for clams, and then you finish researching ironworking. You notice you have an iron node just outside your capitol's BFC, and literally the next turn you get the...

    Benchmarking your performance

It's kind of frustrating to me how people manage to misunderstand the 1.5 worker rule. It's not a "drop everything you're doing to maintain said ratio" type of thing, it's an oversimplification of a very complex question: "How many workers do I need?" There are far too many variables to...
