Killing too Early leads to trouble.

well, civ4 is too realistic. You need to control the area around you.

    Ancient war, not my specialty

Against a not well defended civ, an early axe rush with city raider axes works well. However, if the city is on a hill, that is a problem. Often, only one attack works well, after that, this civ spams archers. So take the capital first, everything else is not really useful. Later on, with...

    Strategy, Tactics & Logistics

Ok, everything goes together. Thats the reason why one has to think about economic consequences (courthouses!) and how to progress scientifically(libraries!), the very moment one sends the first some axeman against another civ. That makes Civ4 an interesting, fascinating game.

On expansion - avoid the middle

Yes. Enough Axeman, or later Catapults and Swordman with Cityraider promoyion help definitely.

    Over populated!! unhappiness! Starvation!

Hi! There are two bounds for people WORKING in a city: unhealthy people can't work unhappy people don't want to work Let me first explain happyness: in the city screen there is a smiling golden face, that are reasons for happyness, the red, unhappy face shows reasons for unhappyness...

    Strike!?

It is necessary to build up the economy before the war. Take a look on the city maintenance. Cities far away cost a lot. So have Code of Laws ready before the first large expansion. Furthermore, some economically strong core cities help. AND: it costs a lot of money if troops are on foreign...

    How I finally beat Prince

Currently I am learning how to fight, to be warmonger. Why? To become a better builder. In that case I can afford having a smaller army and building much more buildings !!!

Winning the battle but losing the war?

Sometimes you have a great artist. Send him in a city and let him create a great work, this gives 4000 culture immediately, and the city should be safe. Otherwise ... i dont know. It seems to be inevitable to loose some cities at the border.

    The AI cheats...what a surprise

Thats interesting. One cannot use the ocean squares of the enemy in a war. Conclusion: build culture in the own cities at coasts, this prevents such ugly situations, sign open borders with neighbors of civs you may want to attack.

How soon do you build roads?

A backbone road network has priority for me. It connects ressources, allows fast troop movement and spreads my religion (if I have any).

    Small civs remain potent?

This is similar how I played CIVI. If you have lets say tanks, a large number of rifleman and cavallery is tot a big problem. So building a small civ with all sorts of resources winning the tech race and a space victory is a nice idea. I think I try it (if I ever have time to play).

    GOTM 48 first spoiler

I have build Seoul at the starting position, then 3 warriors and one settler. My first warrior met a persian warrior. Then I decided to take the best land near to the persian borders, build some more towns, units and attack. So the second town was founded on the hill next to the cow NE of...

Looking for tips to finish an emperor game

I never played emperor, but there are articles about massive use of artillery. (how to use artillery offensively / defensively) This seems to be so powerful that some people call it an exploit. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=25078 This thread started in June, 2002, the...
