[DEV] Nations population and important cities

I found a 1938 World Almanac of facts and figures at a book store. If you have anything you'd like me to look up, just let me know.

[DEV] World map - discussions / design phase

I'd forgotten all about urban areas! How many cities are you looking to restrict it to? Five cities: Minsk, Kiev, Smolensk, Kursk, Kharkov. Four cities: Minsk, Kiev, Smolensk, large Kursk & Kharkov combined. Three: Minsk & Smolensk, Kiev, Kursk & Kharkov. Two: Minsk & Smolensk, Kiev & Kursk &...

[DEV] World map - discussions / design phase

Because the decisions to take cities or drive past them were so critical to Operation Barbarossa, I would add a primary and secondary line of cities to the west of the primary objectives: Primary: Maybe one of the Baltic's like Vilnius, Riga, or Pskov. Minsk Kiev Maybe Odessa. Secondary...

[DEV] World map - discussions / design phase

I like the idea of moving the North Africa coast south; even 1 tile would help substantially. I'm neutral on the Aegean. I don't recall the Aegean being of much strategic value and I rarely used it on TK's '42 map. Crete and Cyprus were nice for British harbors and strategic bombing bases...

[DEV] World map - discussions / design phase

I would keep three categories independent: 1. The initial countries invaded in '39 and '40 for the sake of historical accuracy. Poland, Finland, Norway, Denmark, ... 2. Countries with a substantial resource who substantially supplied a major power or could have: Oil: Venezuela, Dutch...

    [DEV] Resources Procurement

Quite welcome. If you've got any other projects to work on, let me know whichever ones would be most useful. If you have a base map, I can add the locations and percentage values. I started putting together a list of convoy routes for the for the colonies (South America) and eastern map...

    [DEV] Resources Procurement

I was mistaken about the SW U.S. oil production; it dropped drastically in the depression but rebounded by '39. I added them into the previous map. 1939 Coal Production (still working on SE Asia) https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zPymlmYUvZmE.ktLROfsVfCBc&usp=sharing

Thanks! I've read something about that too. I think those didn't reach full production until the middle of the war but I will look into it further. It's amazing how little verifiable information there is regarding U.S. strategic resources or plans ... I'm working on coal tonight and...

    [DEV] Resources Procurement

1939 Oil Production Map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zPymlmYUvZmE.k0Wd32YMo71g&usp=sharing Notes: Most reserves, particularly those in the Middle East, were not tapped until after the war. Italy had almost no production, relied on her reserves and Germany's contributions, yet had...

    [DEV] Resources Procurement

I drew up a spreadsheet and summarized production data into % of world output for 1939. Some of the numbers are approximations because the data was merged (ex: Japan occupied parts of China).

    [DEV] Resources Procurement

Added a layer with each country's bauxite production as a % of world market in 1939. I figured that would be the most useful number for balancing mine yields on a world map. Most mines' production stayed roughly even during the war due to labor shortages. The Caribbean dropped off massively...
