I think that the start is fun because you are exploring and looking for places to set up new cities and such. After that things can get a little slow but don't forget you can just start a war if you are bored. Also in the options menu you can enable auto end turn to save you clicking the button...

I was looking for a good place for my 1st city, sent the warrior one way and the settler another way. It bumped into some barbarians and my warrior was defeated trying to rescure it :blush:

How expensive are they? I often have around 10, most of them on automatic, maybe that is why I'm never as rich as my friend.

I guess civs are supposed to start in their real life locations, if thats the case then I have a problem because when I play as england I always start on a tiny island thats got about 10 tiles of land. This is with load scenario ticked.
