What are some challenges/alternate ways to play the game that you enjoy?

This is what I do. I let the game choose who I am going to be and then I try to play to the strengths of whoever I get. I enjoy this because there are SO many choices -- if I have to pick for myself I either get choice paralysis or fall into a rut of always playing the same three or four ones...

    Quick Questions and Answers

Ohhhh -- I didn't think of that. I looked into the competitions, and it turns out it's the Nobel Peace Prize -- Silver tier prize is a GA and GE, just what I got. Thanks! :king:

    Quick Questions and Answers

I am playing as Lautaro, with all expansions and DLC, using the latest version of the CQUI mod and no other mods. At the beginning of a turn in the early Industrial era I think, I suddenly received a Great Engineer and a Great Artist. They just appeared in my cities -- I did not get the Great...

Is civ 6 the most peaceful iteration ever?

I get a mixture of peaceful games and games with a lot of war in them. I recently tried to move up from King to Emperor and in my first Emperor game Alexander came after me around turn 30 or 40. I held him off for a bit but the archers just. kept. coming. and after a bit some of Alexander's UUs...

The unit that takes the city gets +10XP. I believe this is true even if the city is bombarded or range-attacked to zero health before you move the melee or cavalry unit in to take it. :king:

    Mass Producing Apostle Help?

This is a cool thread -- I have engaged in theological combat for sport and find it weirdly satisfying. It makes me want to try a religious-victory game. :crazyeye:

[NFP] Civilization VI: Maya & Gran Colombia Pack Discussion Thread

I started my first Gran Colombia game this morning. The movement bonus is really strong. I thought I would be snatching up goody-huts right and left -- except it turned out that I started on an Island with one city-state and no other civs. :crazyeye: (Weird because I thought I'd picked...

    Quick Questions and Answers

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere but I'm not hitting on the right combination of search terms to find it. I'm a little confused about grievance penalties. I get that if I'm at war with some civilization, and I capture their cities, they accumulate grievances against me. When the war...

How often do you play pacifist?

+1 to all of this for me, too. ETA: That said, I sometimes let the game choose my civ for me (to force me try something new, or combat choice paralysis), and if it chooses a civ for which war makes sense, I might go ahead and play a domination game.

    Quick Questions and Answers

You folks have pretty much answered my questions - thanks! I am an old Civ III and Civ V player (you can look up my ancient posts about them in the archives). I bought Civ VI when it came out but am only just now getting around to playing it. Of course most of the posts around here are from...

Venice, a weak civ in Brave New World? Let´s see...

I enjoy playing Venice and on King level I actually find it a little too easy. I don't know exactly what happened in your game but here are a few things to keep in mind: * The relative strength of your military - in terms of numbers, not just technology - affects the AI's decision to go to war...

    Bribing City States

I don't go out of my way to do every CS quest (I can't base my decision whether to build a wonder on whether a CS wants me to build it) but I do keep my eyes open for quests that might fit well into my plans anyway. For example, before I set a trade route, I will check if any CS has a...

    Make it real fun.

 First of all, if you do play a small empire, your cities should be enormous bustling metropoli, not "tiny hamlets." Second of all, happiness definitely requires attention, but it doesn't murder large empires if you pay attention to the game mechanics. I am only a king player...

    Landlocked Venice is handicapped

I guess if you get Venice on a landlocked start you might be able to salvage it by rushing to optics and buying a coastal city-state. Then at least you can get the trade routes going. I'd sort of like to try it, actually! (But I am a King-level player.)

    Make it real fun.

This is fascinating to me. I was also a big Civ III player (I wrote some strategy articles for this very site), who skipped Civ IV and came back to the franchise recently to play Civ V. (I had also played a lot of the original and II. IV was the only one I didn't play.) And I disagree with...
