Cool, this looks like a nice set of images of the tapestry.
Don't feel like you have to stitch it all together. Realistically we're not going to the put the whole length of the thing in. That would be a HUGE file.
To return to opening art for a minute...
I am having a difficult time really integrating the tapestry into a piece so that it looks great. How about just a simple stationary image? Here is a nice piece of art with our little banner floating on top. The upper-left of the image has stuff on it...
Hmmm, yes, a bit of visual continuity with the loading screen would be good.
Last night (before I saw this suggestion) I mocked up one possibility featuring one of my favorite castles. I'm not entirely happy with it. The tapestry (in my opinion) has to sit on a neutral scroll-like background...
I tried and failed to make it loop. I was modifying an existing animation, and do not know enough to make it do more fancy things. In fact, it only goes through part of the tapestry anyway. Since (I think) the DDS file in question has to be square, the tapestry DDS already is a large file.
I...
Fixed now.
The problem with making the tapestry larger is the loss of quality. The only long graphic I could find (this is the one on wikipedia) is only 300 px tall. The higher quality/dpi images are all just very short snippets. Please let me know if you find a longer chunk which is at...
I have uploaded to the SVN a very simple working example with the Bayeux Tapestry scrolling on a plain background image. It looks like this, but with the bottom tapestry scrolling slowly by.
A fancier background would be fine (if someone else wants to pick a nice one), but I think it should...
Here's a screenshot with some changes:
1) 3Miro's idea of putting flags on Europe. This is from a real test game. Only flags from currently-alive civs are placed. Placement is rough (many flags need to be nudged a little). I think I like the effect.
2) Boxes showing which civs are in which...
I also feel like flags in Europe would be slightly distracting/misleading. The screen is about colonies. Perhaps adding the flags on the Europe map would help new players to identify which countries hold which colonies. Is that the main reason for the suggestion?
Thanks for your suggestions Morholt, but I'm going to stick with the modern map for now. You'll be happy to know that there is now a fallback icon for civs without their own custom-colored button, so at least this shouldn't break your modmod.
This should be easy to add.
They should work...
I'm afraid I won't be coming back to coding full time. I'll try to do odds and ends here and there.
Swapping in another map is not too hard. I just need to identify new coordinates in the map. The old maps here do look nicer and are more atmospheric. Only the first one...
I haven't had time to make contributions to this mod for a while, but I've enjoyed playing the latest betas. Thanks to the rest of the team for all their amazing work.
One thing I find annoying in the late game is keeping track of colonies. The Top 5 Cities/Wonders screen provides the...
