I totally agree with above posters that Civ5 is just not engaging enough. I can see two main reasons - firstly, the really unbalanced game mechanics which rewards only very particular strategies (and which play out the same way every time), and secondly, lack of immersion as an actual leader of...
I also had a look at old threads. When looking back like this, make sure you sort the threads by date started, rather than by date of last post, otherwise there is a "thread survivorship bias" - i.e. you only look at threads that didn't get much attention back then.
It does seem (and that's...
I'd give it a C-. However it is interesting to see that a bimodal distribution is emerging - with people either going for B (somewhat liking it) or D (disliking it). I guess those who give it a B still hope that the flaws will be fixed in patches/XPs, while those giving it a D think it's hopeless.
Precisely - even if the civic doesn't have anything negative to it, when you change to it, you lose benefits of the previous civic (unless you were in the default one), and this is already a negative. The social policies however all stack up, and the more policies you have, the more benefits you...
There are a few things that I like in Civ5, and would really love for them to be incorporated into Civ4 ;). In no particular order:
1) Hexes look good
2) Strategic resources only allow a limited number of units
3) The 3D realistic-looking leaders. Much better than Civ4's cartoony look...
I agree this is nonsense. In the real world consider the scientific achievements of say, Switzerland (pop 7.7m) and Indonesia (pop 238m). Sure, in most cases countries with larger populations have more resources, but really scientific output requires some kind of infrastructure to support it...
In my Civ5 games I was forced to stop a successful invasion precisely because of internal troubles - even when puppeting cities, I still got to -10 unhappiness very quickly, and didn't want to risk further war with units fighting with a 33% penalty. This is not to defend the Civ5 system, but...
I think that in the current state research agreements are extremely unrealistic. The dynamics are extremely simple, and it just seems as if the devs "couldn't be bothered" to make something a bit more interesting. Currently both civs gets some random tech after x turns, or whenever they declare...
I played all the versions of Civ and all the expansion packs since Civ1, so I was definitely going to buy Civ5. I only played the demo to make sure my laptop can handle it. When I first played it, I got the impression that it's overall good, but just too rough round the edges - something that...
What I find annoying is when a city-state which is my ally declares war on some civ. The city-state usually gets slaughtered if I'm not ready to step in and fight the other civ.
In my current game I was allies with maritime Singapore, which also provided Incense for me. In the middle of my war...
