Settings to avoid civ eradication/runnaway AIs?

Yea sure, but having a bunch of small AIs who have no way to compete with you is fun? By the time there is a runaway AI you typically have as much territory/cities, so if there wasn't that runaway AI, you'd just be way ahead of everyone. If you find having to work for a win boring, ok I guess.

Settings to avoid civ eradication/runnaway AIs?

I see runaway AIs as one of the few things that can actually make a game challenging, why disbale it?

Noob not understanding economics, happiness, warfare

Without going into much detail you could try: Make more cities early, if you aren't attacking, and you aren't going cultural victory, try to get as many cities as your happiness can handle. Make some of these gold focus, only make trading posts around them. Gold should be NP then. Note: This...

Death of Conventional Strategies? [11/18 Patch Notes]

Still we don't know what the changes are, if they make science victory faster with a non-ics style then its possible, which they could technically do. You already get more research faster if you don't ICS and go library first problem is that as ICS scales up and gets things running it...

    Scouts worthwhile to build?

Gauntlet is a SP CivFanatics thing, second post down on the homepage. Current settings are Egypt, King difficulty, Great Plains, must win by conquest.

Death of Conventional Strategies? [11/18 Patch Notes]

The SP change fixes the ICS into sell all my cities on the turn I have enough culture to win the game. You will basically never want to ICS for a cultural win anymore because any culture you gain you will be forced to spend at the expensive rate instead of the lower 1 city rate. The other...

    Staying Alive

Well the quoted post isn't really about strategy, its just about friends playing on a lan and if 1 person gets warrior rushed they are then out of the game, which could be multiple hours long. It just isnt fun for that person. So they play the island map type to eliminate early warrior...

    Scouts worthwhile to build?

Well its not exactly something that can be quantified, and it seems no matter how many potential gains you can acquire with faster movement unless they are 100% you will consider them a gamble and not worth it. IMO, the accumulation of the benefits adds up to a always positive imo. Also...

    End Turn Button is Final?!?

But the thing is that you can most stuff even after its pressed, it just doesn't display it to you properly. I get the whole wait until next turn to communicate the changes but how about they make the local client at least display the citizen changes, tile purchases and so on properly.

Whats the benefits of large populations?

Extra pop is the same happiness hit no matter where you have it, its all just 1 happiness per pop. If you mean to say that too much vertical growth can inhibit horizontal growth, well that is true and that is something you have to decide in what situation it is worth to do one or the other...

Whats the benefits of large populations?

If your goal is high production you want to grow the city to the size that allows you to work ALL of the hills and or forests that are available to it. That doesn't mean you go out of your way to get granaries and what not, but you shouldn't inhibit growth if more citizens will allow you to work...

why should i ever puppet a city?

Yes the typical strategy is to conquer and puppet everything, annex only if you really need/want to. Building a courthouse makes that city have the same unhappiness as one of your own cities you built, but it takes 200 hammers to build and costs 5 gold maintenance. Another strategy is to...

Whats the benefits of large populations?

The main reason to have a high pop city, and currently one of the only reasons, since as its been shown science you are better off with more lower pop cities, is to have a concentrated source of high hammers for building high hammer cost buildings and units. I find it useful to pick a few...

Death of Conventional Strategies? [11/18 Patch Notes]

IMO these changes make a lot of sense for the game. The SP and Military promotion changes make the most logic sense, saving promotions and Solicy Policies could at times be interesting but it really made no sense at all that these could be saved indefinitely. Sure, this changes a lot of...

    Changing Civ in multiplayer

When I have reconnected to a multiplayer saved game it automatically assigns you your previous Civ and you can not change it or change which player you are, it seems that multi games remember which civ you were based on your steam tag. So yea, even when you reload there is no way to switch.
