Alright, I found the solution, and it is so stupid! Turns out (for me anyway) that if you make a custom map with two civ's starting points closer than 4 tiles away, the game will crash while loading.

I really hope Rhye keeps working on this. Rhyes and Fall was my favourite mod in Civ 4. I remember back when Civ 5 came out, I always checked if there was an update to Rhyes and Fall. Ahh, good memories.... lol :p
