    Chichan Itza!

You could climb it in the summer of '03. The tour guides were always saying that "This is the last year people will be allowed to climb up the temple," but after hearing that a few times I had started to think that was just tourist trap stuff. Looks like they finally shut it down. It's not...

    Safedisc still pathetic.

I'm doubting the admins would be happy having a reference to that web site, regardless of how "indirect". Not that anybody looking for such a thing wouldn't stumble across that place anyway (as much as it is linked to elsewhere).

Now where did I put that airport?

Can't you rebase to cities that you have an open border with? I seem to recall rebasing a bomber to a neighbor's city (only to have it destroyed quickly by a nearby enemy unit I had failed to notice). Edit: It appears that rebasing bombers is possible. Which means you don't need to capture...

    Domination Victory and Turn limit

One of those "others" that you can turn off is time. It is on the same screen as the other victory conditions.

Civ 4, a failure made successful by money and absence of community

EXACTLY! Great point. Physical parts are tested thoroughly for faults. Complex software cannot be tested to the same extent in a timely/cost effective manner. The end result is that untested code ships. (I know... I've done it.) It is comical that some people try to call it "software...

Civ 4, a failure made successful by money and absence of community

My point isn't about about quality control so much as the expectations or standards that are applied. The person who bought the car is EXPECTED to be mad, whereas the person who buys software with defects apparently should EXPECT some initial defects (that may be fixed later with a patch)...

Civ 4, a failure made successful by money and absence of community

I think you've tried to confine your commentary to game development, but you actually hit the head of a much bigger nail than that. Quality is a huge issue with ALL software development. If you bought a car, you would expect it to function as transportation. You would be rather annoyed if...

    Permanent alliance with AI?

That's a great idea. It'd even be useful with human allies, as it is a very specific request.

    Permanent alliance with AI?

That's something that a human teammate might easily do as well. (I lost out on several World Wonders because the teammate started them in little weak cities that I would have beaten if I could race, but the team keeps me from trying to build it.) Also, even if you do have a more productive...

    Firaxis: Patch coming next week

Yep. When talking about 32 bit Windows XP: 2^32 = ~4.2billion, or about 4GB (big b for bytes) of ram. On a system with 4GB, half is reserved for kernel usage, while the other half is available for applications.

    Firaxis: Patch coming next week

Which wouldn't be quite so bad if that also wasn't the start of the next workweek. That being said, Fridays and just before holidays make for good release days. That way, if everything is done, everyone "gets" to take the weekend or the holiday off.

    Catherine

It may be that her traits (creative/financial) fit well with how the AI plays, or that both of the traits contribute rather directly towards the score. Financial is definitely big, although creative is only really an edge in the earlier "land grab" phases.

If you modify this game you have to destroy it?

If you put your code in the appropriate mod folder (rather than overwriting the original files), then you aren't really modifying the software. It was already designed to look in those mod folders for code. Though I totally agree that this is likely a standard issue license agreement. They...

    Preserve Random Seed?

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember seeing a random seed value somewhere in the ini file. Perhaps if you changed that prior to loading the game (insert some number there), you would get a different result. However, even if you can change the seed doesn't mean that you'll necessarily get a...
