Well it depends. In terms of progression as a series, as a successor to Civ4 and in terms of Player vs AI the game is certainly only average.

That might very well be, but i paid less than half of what i paid for BE and right now i like it more. Unless they release a lot of free content im not going to buy an expansion for BE.

If the high traderoute yields are intentional, you would think that they had the whole game balanced around it. But if you build all traderoutes quickly, you will run into the same problem over and over again: nothing to build, no way to fail.
