They are gamebreaking for multiplayer... for singleplayer they aren't gamebreaking, some civs are just harder to win with due to their nonexistent bonuses.
Well 2 players and AI is doable.
More than 4 Human players and you 'll start experiencing serious issues.
Multiplayer doesn't allow for MODs so if you play with mods you won't be able to, that goes for most DLC Civs too. Multiplayer also doesn't allow combat animations.

Simple.... gimme the stuff that Civ 5 failed to deliver:
1) Working Core Mechanics
2) Immersion of the level an empire building game deserves
3) Focus on Multiplayer
4) Focus on Multiplayer
5) PAY ATTENTION and Focus on the friggin Multi farking player!

If Civ 5 was called Slatbang Walla developed by Clownaxis and published by 3L it wouldn't have lasted more than a month on the selves.
That's judging Civ 5 on it's own merits... take away Civilization as a franchise and Firaxis as a Dev and you have nothing left to keep it standing.

Enjoying a story doesn't automatically make it intriguing, deep, well scripted, involving, branching, multi layered and well paced, all of which cannot be used to describe Bioware Stories, at least not since KOTOR.
