Well heck, started the game again, and all map selections are working. Go figure! Thanks for your help, you can mark this "SOLVED."

Hmmm I looked through that and saw no error messages; I'll back up the logs, clear them out of the Logs subdirectory, run again and take a look at the log again. Is there anything in particular I should look for to indicate an error?

Hey, I'm enjoying the cornucopia of info here. I've played Civ IV - mainly vanilla, for a number of years and just got into V a few months ago, after finally getting a system that could support it!
