Talk about cutting it close - Bollywood on turn 499.

Artillery is the most important unit you can get for defense, one cannon's not nearly enough. If you have 4-6 fully upgraded artillery at your disposal it takes a massive future era army to break through your lines, especially if you position your cities well to take advantage of natural...

Talk about cutting it close - Bollywood on turn 499.

If you have a noticeably weaker military than a neighbor they'll almost always attack you. I also had trouble keeping up with my neighbors in tech, Arabia was buying up all the city state alliances in my game and I just didn't have the gold to keep my army upgraded and buy off city states...

Talk about cutting it close - Bollywood on turn 499.

Agreed. I did it on Emperor and had a blast fending off countries triple my size a tech tier above me. Once I got Logistics, +Range Artillery it pretty much shut them down though. I tried a non-aggressive culture win on Immortal and got brutalized though. As it turns out, Riflemen with a...

    Realism

What I don't understand is how this is any different than what we have now? If your city has a population of 6(00), then you have 6 blocks of able bodied citizens to work, with those assigned to mines working on building buildings, those assigned to farms farming food for your city, and those...

    Immortal, pangea, no horsemen rush

On my last Immortal Pangea win I didn't intend to horseman rush, but then Rome rushed me with 4 warriors and 3 archers extremely early from a considerable distance away. I felt compelled to conquer him out of spite, so once I took back my city from him my three horsemen rode to Rome =p Oddly...

Talk about cutting it close - Bollywood on turn 499.

Five to seven cities is a good number, eight can work too. If you're not going for Bollywood you can actually puppet neighbors cities to grab additional culture with no increase to cost too, but this goes against the spirit of a culture win imo :D I think you can do the same thing with the...

The Most Moddable Civilization ever....apparently isn't that moddable.

Am I gullible or are you naive? I knew when I bought Civ 5 that it might have some problems. That's a distinct possibility with ANY new PC game. Whether you think it's right or not is irrelevant, that's how it is and has been for the last decade, and it's not going to change no matter how...

Why put out an unfinished game?

The real problem with Civ V is the AI. There are a few design issues, but I would almost argue that those issues are similar the the AI manipulating required to beat Deity in Civ IV. I don't get the people who say that just because they exist the game is fundamentally broken. If the AI could...

    Worst Civilization in Civilization 5

I apologize for my terminology, I can see where it doesn't exactly make sense. What I should have said is that while you are entitled to your opinion on the Janissary, your analysis of it is wrong. The Janissary's real strength comes into play once it's been upgraded. I wouldn't dream of...

    Worst Civilization in Civilization 5

I said "upgraded Janissaries". It's moronic to attack anyone with musketmen when rifling is a handful of turns of research away. Considering all the examples you're giving against the Janissary, you seem to be assuming the player using the Ottomans is as much of an idiot as the AI is (which...

What's the reason behind denying CS to be razed ?

The "UN stuff" you're excluding for some reason is why they can't be razed. If you could raze them you could make a diplomatic victory impossible, and the designers obviously don't want that =p

    Worst Civilization in Civilization 5

I would ask if you've used an army of upgraded Janissaries? If the AI attacks you with a weakened unit and dies, you get healed. If the AI attacks you and fails to kill you, you kill it next turn with your 25% attack bonus and get healed. How is a self healing unit not a defensive asset? =p...

    Worst Civilization in Civilization 5

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but you're flat out wrong about the Janissary. It's quite possibly the best UU in the game. Just not as a Janissary. Build about 8-12 of them while you research rifling, upgrade them, then enjoy your self healing, attack bonus, death machine army for...

    AI's Great Generals

It seems like the AI only uses GG for city defense. They always put their first GG in their capitol, then additional ones go into border cities. One time the AI culture bombed my only aluminum tile though. That was so brilliant I just assumed it was an accident =p

    nvm

True, we can't be sure, but Firaxis improved Civ 4 substantially. It's not a huge logical leap to assume they'll likely do the same for Civ 5.
